Beloved BBC comedy series with Alison Steadman set to receive US remake from Hollywood star

Hit BBC sitcom Here We Go might be getting an American remake, courtesy of an A-list comedy star.

This delightful show offers a glimpse into the wonderfully messy Jessop family, all seen through the lens of home videos shot by their son, Sam (Jude Morgan-Collie), who dreams of becoming a filmmaker.

The cast of ‘Here We Go’ includes well-known actors like Jim Howick, known for ‘The Change’, Katherine Parkinson from ‘Rivals’, Alison Steadman of ‘Gavin & Stacey’, and the show’s creator, Tom Basden, who also wrote ‘The Ballad of Wallis Island’.

I’ve been really impressed watching this family comedy grow. It started as a little pilot called Pandemonium during the pandemic, and it’s really taken off. What stands out is how good the actors are, the story is surprisingly smart, and the way it’s filmed – with these really fluid, long shots – feels incredibly natural and engaging. It’s just a genuinely well-made and enjoyable show.

The show has impressed comedian Amy Poehler, famous for her work on Parks and Recreation, Saturday Night Live, and her podcast, Good Hang. Her production company, Paper Kite, is now developing an American adaptation of the show.

Just because the project has Amy Poehler involved doesn’t guarantee it will actually be made or be successful. It could still face issues during production or be canceled after just one episode. However, her involvement is a good sign and suggests it has potential to be a great show.

It’s often been difficult for American television to successfully adapt British sitcoms. Recent examples like ‘Welcome to Flatch’ (based on ‘This Country’) and ‘Call Me Kat’ (based on ‘Miranda’) haven’t quite hit the mark.

However, hugely popular shows like The Office and, lately, Ghosts demonstrate that a successful finale is definitely achievable.

Zai Bennett, head of BBC Studios, shared with Deadline that the popularity of the American version of ‘Ghosts’ is influencing their plans to adapt seven more British comedies for a US audience.

I’ve been really enjoying “Here We Go,” and another show I’m hooked on is “Mammoth.” It stars Mike Bubbins as a PE teacher from the 70s who gets frozen in a skiing accident and then wakes up now! I heard there’s even talk of an American version being made for Fox, which would be amazing.
