Eva Mendes Reveals Ryan Gosling’s Only Costar Who Made Her Jealous

Eva Mendes is okay with Ryan Gosling sharing romantic scenes with other actors, like kissing in the rain or dancing. However, she won’t allow it if those scenes take place in space.

Before the release of Ryan’s latest film, Project Hail Mary, his long-time partner playfully confessed to being slightly envious of his computer-generated co-star, Rocky, who is voiced by James Ortiz.

Eva jokingly commented on an Instagram post about the new movie, saying she was playfully jealous of her costar, Rocky. She teased that they spent a lot of time together and even exchanged rings, adding a lighthearted, ‘What the heck?!’

Fortunately, Eva – who shares 11-year-old Esmerelda and 9-year-old Amada with Ryan – doesn’t have anything to be concerned about. Although Ryan has dated co-stars in the past, he found lasting love with Eva when they worked together on the film The Place Beyond the Pines.

In a 2024 interview with TopMob News, the 45-year-old described making the film as “the greatest experience of my life.”

Eva, now 51, experienced a major life change while filming a crime thriller in 2012. Before meeting Ryan Gosling, the mother of two hadn’t considered having children, but as she told Women’s Health in 2019, meeting him completely changed her perspective.

She said it all started when she fell in love with him. That’s when she began to want children—but specifically, his children. It was a desire deeply connected to him.

Marrying Eva has given Ryan everything he hoped for, including the chance to become a father, and has also opened doors to opportunities he never imagined.

Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes began their relationship soon after appearing as a couple in the 2012 movie A Place Beyond the Pines.

Three years after the film came out, Ryan shared with Hello magazine that he feels he’s with the right person. When asked what he loves most about his partner, he simply said, “She’s Eva Mendes.”

As he put it, “There’s nothing else I’m looking for.”

For Ryan, life with Eva and their daughters Esmeralda and Amada is “heaven.”

He described his life as blissful, saying it felt like ‘walking through a field of flowers every day.’ In a 2016 interview on Good Morning America, he shared that he felt surrounded by wonderful people – ‘angels’ – and that they brought joy to even difficult times.

When Ryan won a Golden Globe for La La Land in 2017, he dedicated the award to Eva and her late brother, Juan Carlos Méndez Jr. He explained that while he was enjoying making the film, Eva was raising their daughter, expecting their second child, and supporting her brother as he bravely fought cancer.

Ryan continued, “If she hadn’t taken on so much to allow me this opportunity, someone else would definitely be standing here today. So, thank you, darling.”

Eva Longoria always believed motherhood wasn’t in her future, until she met Ryan Gosling, as she jokingly explained.

She explained to Women’s Health in 2019 that falling in love with him was the reason she wanted to be a parent – not to have children of her own, but to help raise his. She emphasized that this desire was unique to her relationship with him.

In 2019, Eva playfully described life with Ryan as parents of two young daughters to Access, saying it was a mix of joy, beauty, and occasional craziness.

She admitted it was challenging. After getting the kids to bed, she and Ryan would often share a look of relief, feeling like they’d made it through the day without too much trouble.

In May 2020, Eva explained to a fan on Instagram that she and Ryan prefer to keep their family life private. She shared that she doesn’t discuss Ryan’s qualities as a father because she values keeping that aspect of their lives personal.

I’m happy to share what I’m comfortable with, but I’d prefer to keep my partner and children from being overly involved. I hope that makes sense – it’s just my honest opinion.

Likewise, Ryan didn’t really have baby on the brain until Eva came along.

Ryan Gosling said he hadn’t considered having children before meeting Eva Mendes. However, in a 2023 interview with GQ, he explained that once he met her, he knew he didn’t want to raise a family with anyone else.

Ryan shared that while filming The Place Beyond the Pines, he felt a genuine connection with his costars and wished their on-screen family dynamic was real. He described realizing he’d be incredibly happy to have that kind of life.

When it comes to parenting, Ryan also admittedly looks to his longtime love.

I really rely on Eva,” he said in a 2023 interview with GQ. “She always understands what truly matters, and has a knack for knowing what I need. Whenever I’m overthinking things, I just ask her for her perspective.”

Looking back on his life before meeting Eva, the actor from The Notebook explained, “I was searching for someone like her.”

He added, “But it all makes sense now.”

After the hit movie Barbie, Eva publicly expressed her support for Ryan, praising him despite the criticism he received when he first accepted the role. In a January 2024 Instagram post, she wrote, “So proud of my man.”

Even with all the online mockery and press he received, he developed a truly original, funny, and moving character that has become iconic, and ultimately earned an Oscar nomination.

Eva says working with Ryan Gosling on The Place Beyond the Pines was a transformative experience. In a March 2024 interview on Today, she described his acting process as unlike anything she’d ever seen before.

The actor is incredibly dedicated to his work and always strives for perfection, not just in his own performance, but also in helping his fellow actors deliver their best work, as the Girl in Progress star explained.

But for Ryan, Eva is the one doling out the acting lessons.

He told Extra in May 2024 that she’s the best acting coach he’s ever worked with, praising her endless support and guidance.
