Jessica Simpson is toning down her blonde ambition. 

The singer, known for her blonde hair, switched to a ‘bronde’ color—a mix of light brown and golden blonde—for winter, showing that darker shades often look great when the weather gets colder.

Jessica Simpson showed off her new hair color on Instagram on February 9th. She reposted a photo from her hairstylist, Chris Dylan, featuring her walking down a hallway in a black dress with wavy, bronde hair. Celebrity colorist Rita Hazan also shared a detailed look at Jessica’s hair transformation that same day.

She shared a close-up picture of a side-swept hairstyle, captioning it, “I’m loving this hazelnut brown color on Jessica!”

Rita has been collaborating with actress Jessica Simpson – who has three children, Maxwell (13), Ace (12), and Birdie (6), with her soon-to-be ex-husband Eric Johnson – to find the ideal shade of brown for her hair since the beginning of the year. She started by giving Jessica a lighter, “cashmere bronde” color in January.

The hair colorist shared a photo on Instagram that month with the caption, “I’m loving how dark my hair is getting! This might be my best color yet!”

As for how she settled on that color at the time? 

Rita explained to People magazine last December that they slowly adjusted the hair color to achieve the ideal shade. While the current color is quite dark for her, Rita suggested they might go a bit darker, but emphasized the importance of maintaining a soft and alluring look.

Above all, the stylist aimed to create a look that reflected Jessica’s evolving musical style. After moving to Nashville from California in late 2023, she began exploring a more edgy, darker side of country music, particularly showcased in her two-part EP, Nashville Canyon, released last summer.

Rita believes that giving Jessica the ideal brunette hairstyle could be the final piece in helping her embrace her new musical style.

The stylist said the artist’s music creates a strong atmosphere, and the hairstyle needs to reflect that. They envisioned a rich, complex hair color with lots of depth and different tones.

Jessica shared that she’s excited for fans to hear how her music has changed, particularly after taking ten years off from making it.

She shared that she believes in self-compassion, but often motivates herself by focusing on a larger purpose. Reflecting on her 15-year hiatus from singing, she described it as a journey of leaving clues for herself to return to her rightful place as an artist. She feels confident in reclaiming her position and embracing her talent, stating, ‘It’s my chair, my crown, and I reclaimed that.’
