Pokemon Go Brings Back a Rare Spawn in Latest Event (But There’s a Catch)

Completing your PokeDex in Pokemon Go can be tricky, as some Pokemon are harder to find than others. Regional Pokemon and rare forms are especially difficult. For example, some players have been frustrated trying to find Oricorio. If you’re aiming to ‘catch ’em all,’ you’ll need nine different forms of Spinda, and one of those—the Heart-Shaped Spinda—was missing last year. Luckily, it’s now back in Pokemon Go for a limited time!

Many Pokémon Go players were disappointed when the special Heart-Shaped Spinda wasn’t available for Valentine’s Day in 2025. This Pokémon has appeared every February since its release in 2019, so its absence was noticeable. Now, it’s back for a short time as part of the Valentine’s Day 2026 event, from February 10th to February 15th. However, players need to collaborate to unlock it first.

Spinda with a Heart Pattern Returns in Latest Pokemon Go Global Challenge

The Valentine’s Day event in Pokémon Go for 2026 isn’t the biggest we’ve seen, as it doesn’t introduce any new Pokémon. Instead, the event focuses on Pokémon like Nidoran and Cherubi. However, it’s a good opportunity to find Shiny Pokémon, as the chances of encountering them are increased. The most exciting part of the event is the return of Spinda, a rare Pokémon with a special heart-shaped pattern, which hasn’t been available for a while. Players will need to complete a task to unlock it.

A special, heart-patterned Spinda is now available in Pokemon Go, but trainers need to work together first! Niantic has launched a new Global Challenge, asking players to send a total of 100 million gifts in the game. The challenge has already begun and is progressing well – we’re about halfway to the goal! Completing the challenge quickly will give everyone more time to find and catch Spinda, plus enjoy other rewards.

The Valentine’s Day 2026 Global Challenge will unlock the following bonuses once it is complete:

  • Timed Research to get encounters with the rare Heart-Shaped pattern Spinda
  • Increased XP for catching Pokemon using curveball throws
  • Increased chance of getting Rare Candy from opening gifts

The event finishes on February 15th at 8 PM local time. Once the Global Challenge begins, players will have about 5 days to find the rare Spinda. Even if you’ve already caught this Spinda, remember it could be a Shiny, so it might be worth trying to catch it again!

Furfrou, like Spinda, will be part of the Valentine’s Day event! During the event, you can change your Furfrou’s style to the Heart Trim by spending 25 Furfrou Candy and 10,000 Stardust. This special style isn’t available all the time, so don’t miss your chance to add it to your Pokemon Go collection!
