Being a parent can complicate a relationship.
Sarah Shahi recently opened up about her breakup with Adam Demos, her co-star on Sex/Life. Just a month after confirming they had ended their five-year relationship, she explained what led to their decision to split.
“Without airing any kind of laundry ’cause I’m not here for that,” Sarah explained on the Feb. 10 episode of Let’s Be Honest with Kristin Cavallari podcast, “I do think when you have kids, it’s hard to build a life when you have children unless the person truly, truly, truly wants that as well.”
She clarified that her focus isn’t on Adam, but on how she parents her children with her former husband, Steve Howey: their 16-year-old son, William, and their 10-year-old twins, Violet and Knox.
I approach parenting based on my own upbringing,” the 46-year-old shared. “Like my mother, who raised three children as a single parent in Texas, there wasn’t much in the way of rules or limits.”
She explained that they had free access to her and her husband’s private spaces, like the bedroom and bathroom. She added that this level of access might be difficult for someone not accustomed to having children.
She and Adam met while filming a Netflix series in 2021 and seemed like a great match, but their relationship needed more than just romantic connection to succeed.
She thought it was wonderful when love felt effortless, but wished everyday life wasn’t such a struggle.

Although Sarah and Adam ended their relationship, Sarah, the actress from Person of Interest, is open to finding love again. However, she’s planning to try a new strategy when it comes to dating.
She explained she’s ready for a relationship focused on her own enjoyment. She doesn’t want someone to become a father figure, just a boyfriend – someone to have fun with, go on dates, and be physically intimate with.
She explained she was looking for someone to simply take care of her needs, and she’d be open to a relationship developing if it happened naturally.
