Recent Wolfenstein games are considered standouts in the first-person shooter genre, successfully combining a gripping story with fast-paced action. It’s been a while since a new game was released – the last numbered title, Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus, came out in 2017. Fans of the series have been eagerly awaiting the next chapter in B.J. Blazkowicz’s story and what happens with his team.
So, MachineGames did take a detour to make the new Indiana Jones game, but everyone’s still really hyped about what’s next for B.J. and the Wolfenstein series. There haven’t been any official announcements, but I recently read an interview where someone at MachineGames let slip that they are planning another game! It sounds like they’re aiming to wrap up the story arc we’ve been following in the recent games, which is pretty exciting. I’m hoping it’ll be a satisfying conclusion!
MachineGames Is Teasing That Wolfenstein 3 Is Still In The Works

Jerk Gustafsson, Studio Director, recently spoke with GameIndustry.biz about his company’s current status and future projects, hinting at a possible return to the Wolfenstein series. He didn’t offer specific details about what’s next for the franchise, but the conversation, which covered recent games like Indiana Jones and the Great Circle and the company’s overall direction, did touch on the success of their Wolfenstein games.
When questioned about a possible direct sequel to Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus, Jerk Gustafsson didn’t confirm any immediate plans. However, he did say the team always intended to return to the Wolfenstein series and complete the story arc begun in the recent games. He wouldn’t say when this might happen – whether it’s soon or in the future – but assured fans they haven’t finished with the series. While not an official announcement, this is the most recent update fans have received in nearly ten years, and strongly suggests what the next Wolfenstein game will be about.
MachineGames’ Wolfenstein Series Will Be A Concluding Chapter In B.J.’s Story

Although several Wolfenstein games existed before, the character of B.J. Blazkowicz was truly redefined in 2014 with Wolfenstein: The New Order. This highly praised game created a dark alternate history where B.J. failed to defeat General Deathshead, leading to an Axis victory in World War II. Both The New Order and its 2017 sequel, The New Colossus, explore the consequences of this outcome as B.J. fights to overthrow the Nazi regime. The combination of fast-paced shooting and compelling storytelling has revitalized the Wolfenstein series.
The most recent Wolfenstein games were the 2019 spin-offs Youngblood and Cyberpilot. However, there hasn’t been a main sequel to finish B.J.’s story of fighting the Nazis. Although B.J. and his team achieved a significant win in the previous game, many obstacles remained. Youngblood also introduced the idea of a multiverse, which could naturally lead into a third game in the series.
Gustafsson mentioned a potential third game as a way to definitively end the story, hinting that they already have a clear vision for how it would wrap up B.J.’s journey. This is encouraging news for fans hoping for another installment. Considering MachineGames is working with Prime Video on a Wolfenstein TV show, it’s likely we’ll hear about Wolfenstein III around the time more details about the show are released.
