Star Wars Reveals Brand New Stormtrooper Variant For 2026 Movie

Fans of Star Wars are used to seeing different types of Stormtroopers, so it’s no surprise that the upcoming Mandalorian & Grogu movie will introduce another new one. The film, scheduled for release in 2026, will bring the story from the Disney+ series The Mandalorian to theaters for the first time. The series followed Din Djarin, played by Pedro Pascal, and Grogu as they battled the remaining forces of the Empire after the Rebellion defeated the Emperor.

The new film appears to follow a familiar formula, with the remnants of the Empire playing a major role in the story. Expect to see Din Djarin fighting large groups of Stormtroopers, including a new type of these soldiers.

I just saw this online – a listing for a new LEGO Mandalorian & Grogu set seems to show a Stormtrooper we’ve never seen before! It’s being called the “Imperial Remnant AT-RT Driver,” and it looks like LEGO combined the designs of Snowtroopers and those Purge Troopers from Moff Gideon’s ship. Pretty cool!

The AT-RT Trooper is included with the new “AT-RT Attack” Mando Movie set. In the set’s brick-built scene, the trooper operates a turret while Din Djarin attacks from on top of the walker.

We’ve seen AT-RT Troopers in Star Wars before, specifically in Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars: The Clone Wars. But the design shown in recently leaked merchandise for The Mandalorian & Grogu is completely different from those earlier appearances.

The new movie, The Mandalorian & Grogu, follows Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and Grogu as they’re drawn back into battle against the leftover forces of the Empire. After finding some peace protecting the planet Nevarro, they must once again fight for what’s right. Pedro Pascal returns as the lead, joined by Sigourney Weaver (known from Avatar) and Jeremy Allen White (from The Bear), who both have important roles in the film.

As a huge Star Wars fan, I’m really excited about this! Jon Favreau, the guy behind Iron Man and co-creator of The Mandalorian, is bringing The Mandalorian & Grogu to the big screen on May 22nd. It’s been over six years since we’ve gotten a Star Wars movie in theaters, so this is a big deal!

Making Sense of the Mando Movie Plot

Even though The Mandalorian & Grogu movie comes out in just over three months, details about the film are still scarce.

Pedro Pascal is returning as the iconic Din Djarin, and he’ll be joined by Grogu. We also know Jabba the Hutt’s son, Rotta, will play a role, along with representatives from both the New Republic and the remnants of the Empire. But it’s still a mystery how all these characters and factions will connect in the upcoming Mando Movie.

Rumors suggest the next film will involve Din Djarin undertaking a massive, galaxy-wide heist. This could lead him to encounter Rotta the Hutt, and then put him on the run from the remnants of the Empire – similar to what’s been hinted at in a leaked LEGO set.

It will be fascinating to see if these new Imperial enemies have any ties to Moff Gideon, who was killed off in Season 3 of The Mandalorian. The movie might show us an Imperial group that branched off from Gideon’s secret network – the one we saw in the last season of Mando – and is still trying to find Force-sensitive individuals like Grogu.
