Even though the main story of Jujutsu Kaisen finished in December 2024, the series remains incredibly popular. Fans were excited when, in September 2025, creator Gege Akutami unexpectedly began a sequel manga. This new series is set 68 years after the events of the Culling Game and is planned to be a short run, lasting about six months and consisting of no more than three volumes. The first volume, released on January 5, 2026, was a huge success, and the January 2026 best-selling manga list—reported by the reliable source @WSJ_manga—shows Jujutsu Kaisen appearing twice, demonstrating its continued popularity.
The original Jujutsu Kaisen manga is still performing exceptionally well, currently ranking third in sales. Its sequel, Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo, is also doing remarkably well at number six. It’s unusual for both a series and its follow-up to be so popular simultaneously. The original manga has already sold over 150 million copies globally, and sales continue to climb even though the final volumes came out over a year ago. With the anime’s third season bringing renewed attention to the main story, and Modulo nearing its conclusion, Jujutsu Kaisen is solidifying its position as a leading force in the manga world.
Jujutsu Kaisen Has Several New Projects Lined Up for the Next Few Years
The current season of the anime is expected to finish adapting the Culling Game storyline over two parts, leaving only the final arc, the Shinjuku Showdown, to be animated. Because the first part of the season is still being released, news about a potential final season is likely still a ways off. The Shinjuku Showdown arc isn’t very long—around 50 chapters—but it’s known for its particularly intense and violent battles. Meanwhile, the Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo side story is nearing its end and should conclude in March after a six-month run. While the author could extend the story into April, the current plot suggests there probably won’t be any further direct sequels.
Given how popular the series has been, the creator could always come back with a new story set in the same world later on. The first volume of the sequel, Modulo, had an incredibly successful launch, selling over 266,000 copies in its first month. With numbers like that, it’s likely we’ll see an anime adaptation eventually, though it’s too soon for any animation studios to commit to it right now.
Adding to the excitement, a new novel based on the series is in the works, written by popular horror author Yumeaki Hirayama. Although the story is currently a secret, Gege Akutami, the creator of Jujutsu Kaisen, is overseeing its development. Even with the main storyline finished, Jujutsu Kaisen is set to remain popular thanks to future releases and surprising new projects that will continue to engage fans.
