Willem Dafoe’s Togo Surges to Top 3 on Tubi’s Most Popular Movies List

The movie Togo is quickly becoming a hit on Tubi. Since being added to the free streaming service just a few days ago, this 2019 historical adventure has rapidly climbed the charts to become one of the platform’s most-watched films.

According to data from FlixPatrol, the movie Togo is currently third most popular on Tubi as of Tuesday, February 10th. This is a big leap from the previous day, Monday, when it was tenth on the list.

The movie Togo first became available on Disney+ in December 2019 and stayed there until 2024. It’s now streaming again, and you can find it on Tubi since February 1st.

I just finished watching Togo, and it’s a really gripping film! It tells the true story of the incredible 1925 serum run to Nome, Alaska, where musher Leonhard Seppala and his lead sled dog, Togo, risked everything to deliver life-saving medicine during a diphtheria outbreak. Ericson Core, who previously directed Invincible, does a fantastic job bringing this historical event to life. The film features strong performances from Julianne Nicholson, Christopher Heyerdahl, and Richard Dormer, but honestly, Diesel the dog as Togo steals the show – he’s absolutely phenomenal!

While it’s hard to say exactly how much revenue Togo generated for Disney+, the film has clearly made a significant impact with critics and audiences. Even nearly seven years after its release, it still boasts impressive scores on Rotten Tomatoes – 95% from viewers and 93% from critics. Praised for its realistic portrayal of the 1925 serum run to Nome – a story also told in films like Balto and The Great Alaskan RaceTogo received particularly strong reviews for Willem Dafoe’s acting, its special effects, and its straightforward, emotional storytelling.

Willem Dafoe Connected With His Canine Co-Stars

Willem Dafoe, known for his work in many films, believes the success of the historical drama hinged on using real animals instead of computer-generated images. He explained to Deadline that allowing the animals to behave naturally required patience and a flexible approach on set. “The animals are there because we want them to be animals,” he said, emphasizing the importance of authenticity.

Willem Dafoe learned a lot from the dogs he worked with on the film, especially the sled dogs who were very well-trained and athletic. He felt a strong connection with Diesel, the Siberian Husky who played the main dog character. Dafoe described a close, intimate bond with Diesel, which he said greatly helped him focus on the emotional core of the story and deliver a more personal performance.

Togo is currently available to stream for free on Tubi.
