After the huge theater success of Superman, there’s been an increase in viewings for other DC movies on HBO Max. According to Deadline, enthusiasm for the new movie has been spilling over into their streaming services. Interest was already growing for Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel, which re-entered the top rankings last week. The Henry Cavill-led Man of Steel was the seventh most-watched movie on HBO and HBO Max around Superman’s release. But not just that, movies like Peacemaker, Superman: The Movie, and Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story have also seen a surge in streams since Superman hit theaters.
For “Peacemaker,” an unexpected spike in viewership might seem peculiar, considering it was driven by “Superman.” However, the show’s first season witnessed a remarkable 91% rise in viewers over the last week alone, which bodes well as the second season is set to premiere next month. Nathan Fillion will return as Guy Gardner, prior to his role in HBO Max’s “Lanterns.” He will be joined by Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr. and Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl. The acclaimed series, with John Cena portraying the lead character, is anticipated to significantly influence the future of the DC Universe.
Superman Soars on Streaming
As reported by Deadline, the viewing figures for “Superman: The Movie” increased an impressive 332% compared to the previous week. Starring Christopher Reeve, this classic superhero film is often ranked among the greatest of all time and offers a compelling portrayal of Superman as an icon. Interestingly, despite the larger growth in viewership for “Superman: The Movie,” it was actually “Man of Steel” that topped the Superman movies on HBO Max last week, with its viewership soaring by 218% compared to the week before.
Due to renewed interest in the movie “Superman: The Movie” starring Christopher Reeve, it’s no wonder that viewers have been keen on learning more about him. As a result, the documentary titled “Super/Man: The Christoper Reeve Story“, directed by Ian Bonhôte and Peter Ettedgui, has seen a significant surge in viewership, with a whopping 1,206% increase week-over-week. This documentary, released last year, includes footage of Christopher Reeve and Dana Reeve, along with appearances by Alexandra Reeve Givens, Matthew Reeve, and Will Reeve.
Last week, I soared into the cinemas, and to my delight, I shattered all predictions by raking in a staggering $125 million domestically on my debut. The forecast suggests another impressive haul of $62.5 million during my second weekend, with minimal competition ahead. I, Superman, am portrayed by David Corenswet, and the mastermind behind the camera is DC Studios co-head James Gunn. This film also boasts an exceptional cast including Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Edi Gathegi as Mr. Terrific, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, and Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen.
Superman is now playing exclusively in theaters.
