The director of John Wick is bringing his signature intense action style to the Highlander reboot. Recent behind-the-scenes footage shows Henry Cavill and Dave Bautista, as the immortal Highlander and his enemy The Kurgan respectively, performing a physically demanding fight scene, with both actors dramatically falling during the sequence.
A Highlander reboot has now been in the works for so long that many wondered whether the project had either been cursed or would only be seen by actual immortals. Development on the revival began way, way back in 2008, with Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds eyed for the lead. The idea of a possible curse continued after Cavill was injured while training for Highlander, but the actor is now back and fighting fit as he battles for “The Prize.”
The upcoming film Highlander, directed by Chad Stahelski (known for John Wick) and written by Kerry Williamson and Mike Finch, boasts a stellar cast led by Henry Cavill and Dave Bautista. Cavill will be joined by Russell Crowe, his co-star from Man of Steel, who is set to play the mentor role originally made famous by Sean Connery. Rounding out the cast are Karen Gillan and Djimon Hounsou, both known for their work in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, along with Marisa Abela (Industry), Max Zhang (Blades of the Guardians), and Jeremy Irons (Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice).
‘Highlander’ Promises the Same Hard-Hitting Action as ‘John Wick’
New video (shared by @UnBoxPHD) offers the clearest look yet at Henry Cavill as Connor MacLeod and Dave Bautista as The Kurgan in the upcoming Highlander reboot. Interestingly, Bautista’s character appears to be a priest in this version. Like Chad Stahelski’s John Wick films, known for their impressive action, this footage suggests the new Highlander will feature realistic stunts and practical fight choreography performed by professionals.

Highlander does not yet have a release date but will be released by Amazon MGM Studios. While plot details haven’t been officially revealed, the reboot is expected to follow a similar plot to the 1986 original, which centers on swordsman Connor MacLeod as he discovers that he is one of a number of immortal warriors. After living somewhat peacefully for several centuries, MacLeod settles in New York City and is soon dragged back onto the battlefield when his greatest enemy returns to kill him. A leaked synopsis seemingly confirms this, while also hinting that the reboot will add details from Highlander: The Series. You can check it out below…
