Now that a musical about the 1984-85 miners’ strike, titled ‘Pride,’ has been announced for the National Theatre’s 2026 season, many people will likely be thinking about this important historical event this year.
This trend is expected to continue, especially with the popular show Billy Elliot back in London’s West End and touring the country.
This famous musical features songs by Elton John and is adapted from the 2000 movie with the same title.
Billy Elliot is the story of a young boy growing up in a northern English mining town in the 1980s. He unexpectedly falls in love with ballet, which goes against what’s considered acceptable for boys in his tough, working-class community.

Billy Elliot the Musical is returning in 2026, kicking off its tour on November 4th at the Sunderland Empire. The show will play there until November 28th, then continue traveling to other cities across the UK.
Fans of musicals in Manchester and Edinburgh have something to look forward to – this production is heading their way! More cities on the tour and the actors involved will be revealed soon.
The musical will be performed at London’s Adelphi Theatre for a limited time, from February 12th to July 31st, 2027. Tickets for all performances will be available for purchase starting at 10am on March 9th, 2026.

Elton John and Stephen Daldry, the composer and director of Billy Elliot the Musical, shared that creating the show was a truly special experience for them. They’re thrilled and deeply moved to bring it back to audiences across the UK with a new tour and a West End run after more than ten years.
This story is daring, distinctly British, and deeply emotional. It feels incredibly timely, and we’re excited for a new audience to discover it!
