Vigil season 3 unveils chilly first look at new episodes as new cast members join Suranne Jones and Rose Leslie

New photos have been released offering a sneak peek at season 3 of the BBC drama, Vigil, which is returning just over two years after its second season aired.

New photos offer a first glimpse of the location for season 3, where Suranne Jones (as DCI Amy Silvs) and Rose Leslie (as DI Kirsten Longacre) will be investigating the death of a soldier from a secret British special forces unit at a faraway research station in the Arctic.

The photos reveal Jones and Leslie reprising their roles, joined by fellow returning actors Gary Lewis and Dominic Mafham, who play Detective Sergeant Robertson and Sir Ian Downing.

The cast also includes new characters played by Jeppe Beck Laursen (known from The Trip), Steven Miller (Dept. Q), Naomi Yang (Under Salt Marsh), Benjamin Wainwright (Belgravia: The Next Chapter), Tornike Gogrichiani (Drops of God), and Danusia Samal (Red Eye). Their character names haven’t been revealed yet.

Season 3, produced by the team behind Line of Duty (World Productions, part of ITV Studios), follows Amy and Kirsten as they investigate a murder while trying to prevent an international crisis. This crisis is fueled by a struggle for energy and resources in the Arctic, and the case puts both their jobs and their relationship at risk.

Filming for the new season has finished in Svalbard and Scotland. Joining the cast are Artur Zai Barrera (known for ‘Lucky’), Jordan Duvigneau (‘The Stolen Girl’), Kaisa Hammarlund (‘Hijack’), Adam Fidusiewicz (‘FBI: International’), Eric Godon (‘In Bruges’), Conor Berry (‘Karen Pirie’), and Amy Manson (‘Rebus’).

The cast also includes Jason Tobin, known for his work in ‘A Thousand Blows’; Steven Cree from ‘All of You’; Killian Coyle of ‘Shetland’; Derek Riddell, who appeared in ‘Industry’; Alma Prelec from ‘Fifteen Love’; Dawn Sievewright of ‘Undertow’; and Shereen Cutkelvin, who starred in ‘Summerwater’.

Tom Edge, the original creator, is back as a writer for the new season. He’s joined by Tom Mair and Eve Hedderwick Turner, who each contributed to the six episodes. Gareth Bryn (known for The Gathering) and Faye Gilbert (The Bay) directed the series.

Season one was primarily set on a nuclear submarine, but season two moved the action to Scotland and the made-up Middle Eastern nation of Wudyan.

I’m so excited to hear that Vigil season 3 is coming to BBC One and BBC iPlayer later this year! If you haven’t seen it yet, the first two seasons are already available to stream on BBC iPlayer, and they’re totally gripping.
