Subnautica, Subnautica: Below Zero Coming To Switch 2 With 60 FPS and Higher Resolutions

With Subnautica 2 scheduled to launch in early access in 2026, its developer, Unknown Worlds, is releasing versions of the original Subnautica games on the Switch 2. They hope this will allow more players to experience the excitement of underwater exploration and survival on alien planets.

Both Subnautica and Subnautica: Below Zero are coming to the platform on February 17th, but it’s more than just a simple re-release. The developers are improving the graphics and gameplay to make the experience even better. Players can expect the games to run at 1440p when played on a TV and 1080p in handheld mode, with a smooth frame rate of 60 FPS in both cases.

These enhancements, combined with planned improvements to the Joy-Con 2 – focusing on precise controls, fluid movement, and better interaction – will significantly benefit gameplay, especially in games where those elements are crucial for success.

Producer Michael Verrette recently announced that Subnautica and Subnautica: Below Zero are coming to the Nintendo Switch 2. He credited the game’s dedicated player base for the success of the series and explained that bringing the games to the new console is a way to welcome new players and offer existing fans a revitalized experience. He described the Switch 2 versions as being smoother, more immersive, and a fresh way to enjoy these underwater worlds.

Players who already own Subnautica on the Nintendo Switch can get the updated version at no cost through a free Upgrade Pack. This news follows a recent developer diary showcasing the game’s multiplayer features before its launch.
