Thomas Rhett Got Hearing Aids After “Kind of Going Deaf” in One Ear

Thomas Rhett knows life changes—and he’s making those changes with it.

The country singer revealed he’s experiencing hearing loss in one ear, particularly since being home more with his wife, Lauren Akins, who is expecting, and their four daughters. This prompted him to see a doctor.

He mentioned on the February 9th episode of the Annie F. Downs’ That Sounds Fun podcast that he’s experiencing some hearing loss in his left ear. He explained that this led him to get hearing aids at the age of 35.

I wore the shoes for about a week, and then I asked her if she really heard that noise constantly. I was skeptical.

Lauren, 36, admitted her husband was right – she was overwhelmed by the noise. She jokingly told him, “This is just what our life is like!”

Thomas and his wife are busy raising four young daughters – Willa Gray, 10, Ada James, 8, Lennon Love, 5, and Lillie Carolina, 4 – and they’re expecting another baby soon. He jokingly said he really needs a break now and then!

You know, I was recently playing around with the noise-cancelling feature on my headphones, and it was such a strange experience. I kept switching it on and off, and honestly, when I finally took them off, it was like returning to reality! I just stood there for a moment, thinking how wild it is that we can completely alter what we hear – it’s a bit mind-blowing, really.

We don’t have any childcare help – no nanny, assistant, or even a regular babysitter. Honestly, now that I’m home from touring, I’m starting to wonder when we can get back on the road. I’d be happy to book some shows in March, anywhere at all!

Putting the fun aside, taking time off from touring helped him appreciate his family more. He explained that he hadn’t been home so consistently throughout his entire music career.

The news is perfectly timed, as Thomas and Lauren are enjoying their last few weeks as a family of four. Thomas shared that his wife, Lauren, is expecting their baby on March 2nd, after 14 years of marriage.

The couple announced they were expecting a baby in August with an Instagram video. The video showed Thomas singing his song “Life Changes,” but with some of the lyrics changed to reflect the happy news.

I was still getting used to the idea of becoming a father,” Thomas said, strumming his guitar. “Everything changed when we found out Lauren was pregnant. It really threw our plans for the future into disarray.”

The singer shared, ‘We’re five months along!’ as Lauren lovingly touched her growing belly and displayed their recent ultrasound. ‘It’s just…life changes,’ she continued. ‘You realize things are different overnight. Yeah, life really changes.’

In a 2020 Instagram post, Lauren shared a photo of her family of five happily posing with their newly chosen Christmas tree.

“Everything’s fine,” he wrote alongside the image.

“This is about the sweetest thing on the planet,” the artist captioned the photo.

The singer said they took tons of photos on Halloween. It was really hard to get both Willa and Ada to smile for a picture at the same time, but it was a great time! They’re big fans of Monsters, Inc.

His daughter Ada looked very comfy while seated on her famous father’s lap.

Lauren Akins shared on Instagram about her family, saying they were joyful (and a little worn out!), though she didn’t include a picture of their puppies – but they’re doing well too!

Willa Gray is turning two this week, and her parents are amazed at how quickly time has flown by! They celebrated with a unicorn-themed party and think Willa might be asking for a horse soon.
