Sony has released a new system software update for both the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro. While a recent update in January added some useful features, these larger PS5 updates don’t happen often. Most updates are minor and don’t make a big difference for players, and this February 2026 update is likely to be the same.
The latest PS5 update, version 26.01-12.70.00, is now available. As with most updates, it focuses on improving how the system runs and making it more stable. This download doesn’t add any new features – it’s purely about performance improvements.
A Larger PS5 Update Is Around the Corner

The latest PS5 update is small, but a bigger one is coming soon, especially for the PS5 Pro. This upcoming patch will significantly enhance the PS5 Pro’s PSSR technology – a key feature of the upgraded console. Sony plans to release this update in 2026, and some sources suggest it could arrive as early as next month.
With a significant PS5 update likely coming soon, Sony might share more details during today’s State of Play presentation. PlayStation’s first State of Play event of 2026 starts this afternoon and is scheduled to last for over an hour. While we don’t yet know what will be revealed, it’s possible we’ll hear about upcoming features and improvements for the PS5.
We’ll share any new details about the upcoming PS5 update on ComicBook as soon as we have them. In the meantime, please download the latest console firmware to improve your system’s stability.
