As a huge Doctor Who fan, I’ve been following all the buzz about where the show is headed. Writer Pete McTighe recently spoke about the rumors that he might be involved in leading the series sometime down the line, and it’s definitely got people talking!
As a lifelong Doctor Who fan, I was thrilled to see Russell T Davies come back in 2023! He’s been guiding the show through its big 60th anniversary and now through Ncuti Gatwa’s run as the Doctor – we’ve got two full seasons with him already. Plus, he’s overseeing the spin-off, ‘The War Between the Land and the Sea,’ and even has another Christmas special planned for 2026. It’s a really exciting time to be a Whovian!
There’s no indication he’s leaving in the near future, but fans are already wondering about potential successors. Writer McTighe was recently questioned about the possibility of taking over at some point.
According to CultBox, he responded: “It’s not for me to say.

This isn’t my call to make. Officially, the position isn’t open right now. Russell is in charge of the show, and I’m happy to support him – he’s a friend, and I’ll always be there when he needs me. But ultimately, he’s the one making the decisions, and that’s perfectly fine with me.
McTighe has written for several episodes of the show, such as ‘Lucky Day,’ ‘Praxeus,’ and ‘Kerblam!’. He also helped write the spin-off story, ‘The War Between the Land and the Sea’.

He’s created several short episodes highlighting the show’s beloved classic period, as part of the marketing for Doctor Who: The Collection, a series of Blu-ray releases.
In a 2022 interview with TopMob, writer Pete McTighe revealed he has many ideas for Doctor Who episodes. He explained that the show holds a special place in his life, as it inspired him to become a writer.
I really enjoy making the short trailers for the show – they’re a lot of fun! But I’m not going to share any details about that particular episode, though.
He explained that he’d like to save the idea for potential future use, along with his other concepts. If he gets the chance to work on the show again, he plans to suggest it – and many more ideas – to the producers.
Doctor Who will return to BBC One and BBC iPlayer this Christmas.
