As a passionate anime enthusiast, I couldn’t contain my fervor when Inuyasha declared its return to the legendary realm! The prospect of rejoining Inuyasha and his valiant demon-fighting comrades was exhilarating beyond belief. Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon then captivated us with its gripping narrative, focusing on the offspring of Inuyasha and Sesshomaru as they sought to continue their parents’ mission and unveil the secrets surrounding their whereabouts. Regrettably, the anime adaptation for this much-anticipated sequel concluded in 2022; however, the manga continued its journey but unfortunately followed suit, concluding recently. Could Yashahime mark the conclusion of this enchanting universe?
The manga series “Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon” written by Takashi Shiina concluded in its latest chapter this week, with the final volume slated for release on August 18th. Similar to the anime, the manga finale depicts Towa, Setsuna, and Moroha battling demons at sea aboard a ship. They bid a hasty goodbye to their parents before choosing to remain in the past instead of returning to the present. The final manga chapter does exhibit some differences from how the events unfolded and the appearance of the characters themselves. Will The Inuyasha Universe Return?
Currently, there’s been no news about the Inuyasha franchise extending beyond the conclusion of Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon, both in its manga and animated adaptation. Given how Yashahime concluded, it seems fitting that this might be the final chapter for Inuyasha and Kagome. To describe Yashahime as surprising would be an understatement, as at the time, fans didn’t anticipate the franchise to carry on years after the original series finale. Fortunately, this doesn’t imply that the works of Rumiko Takahashi are coming to a complete halt altogether.
Currently, the creator behind both “Inuyasha” and “Yashahime” is engaged in a new ongoing manga titled “Mao“. Starting in 2019, this series shares a similar format with “Inuyasha”, but offers several distinctive elements that set it apart from the popular isekai anime genre. At present, there’s no confirmed adaptation of “Mao” into an anime, however, given the vast number of chapters published and Takahashi’s reputation, it seems plausible that this supernatural story might make its way to our screens.
Speaking as a dedicated fan, I’ve got to admit, there’s been no clear sign yet that Towa, Setsuna, and Moroha – the daughters of Inuyasha and Sesshomaru – will return in another season. Bandai Namco Filmworks hasn’t dropped any hints about a third anime installment, leaving us all pondering where the story might head now that their parents have been freed from their imprisonments. But let me tell you, the influence that both the sequel series and its original counterpart left on the anime world is something that won’t fade away anytime soon!
