There’s been a lot of buzz lately about the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day movie, particularly who the villains might be. Now, some newly released artwork is giving us another clue about what to expect. It seems a major villain, absent from the story for almost ten years, is making a comeback – and they’re getting a significant power boost with some new technology.
We’ve gotten our first look at Michael Mando returning as Scorpion in the Marvel Cinematic Universe! The new marketing for Spider-Man: Brand New Day features his costume, along with appearances by Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk, and Spider-Man villains Tarantula and Boomerang. While Scorpion hasn’t traditionally been a major villain – until he discovered Spider-Man’s identity through Norman Osborn and formed the “Sinister Twelve” – it looks like he might be getting a bigger role in the franchise this time around.
What Does This Mean for Brand New Day?

Last August, The Hollywood Reporter revealed Michael Mando would reprise his role as Mac Gargan, a character first introduced in a post-credits scene in Spider-Man: Homecoming. Photos from the set in October 2025 showed Mando in a prison jumpsuit, being escorted from a helicopter. Although Boomerang and Tarantula haven’t been officially confirmed for the movie, and the actors who might play them are unknown, recent artwork suggests we’ll likely see them – marking their first appearance in live-action alongside other villains like William Metzger.
This news arrives as Spider-Man is incredibly popular, with several projects already planned. In 2026, fans will finally get a mix of content: a live-action film, the second season of the animated Disney+ series Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, and a new TV show, Spider-Noir, on Prime Video (which exists outside of the Marvel Cinematic Universe). This marks the first time ever that three different Spider-Man projects, all starring him as the lead, will be released in a single year within the MCU.
