After 16 years, the manga Yona of the Dawn by Kusanagi Mizuho concluded in December 2025. The series first appeared in Hakusensha’s Hana to Yume magazine in 2009 and was later adapted into a 24-episode anime by Studio Pierrot in 2014. Despite its popularity and fans’ continued requests, a second season of the anime was never announced. Thankfully, when the manga ended, fans received confirmation that a sequel anime is in development. However, Studio Pierrot hasn’t yet announced when it will be released or shared any new visuals, so fans will have to wait for more information.
The manga artist regularly updates fans on social media, often posting new character art for special occasions. This Valentine’s Day, she shared a beautiful illustration on X (formerly Twitter) featuring Hak and Yona, a popular couple from her series. The artwork shows them bundled in winter clothes as snow falls, with their companion, Ao, nearby. It’s a sweet scene of Hak leaning on Yona, emphasizing their close bond, and fans loved it! The post quickly went viral, gaining thousands of likes as excitement builds for the next season and the development of their relationship.
Yona of The Dawn’s Season 2 Will Take a Huge Step Forward in The Main Couple’s Relationship

Hak has always been Yona’s closest friend and dedicated protector, vowing to keep her safe no matter what. On her sixteenth birthday, Yona’s world shattered when she saw Soo-Won, the person she admired, kill her father, King Il. She quickly realized her own life was in danger. While most at the castle abandoned her, Hak remained loyal, standing by her side despite overwhelming odds. He tirelessly protected her, even after they fled the castle.
Hak secretly loved Yona, even though she was in love with Soo-Won. Watching her grow stronger through difficult experiences only deepened his admiration. The first season of the story mainly explores Hak’s feelings. While it’s clear Yona cares about Hak, it’s not yet obvious if she feels the same way romantically.
The next part of the story will follow Yona and her companions now that they’ve assembled all four Dragon Warriors. Yona of the Dawn is a fantasy romance that unfolds gradually, and as they travel, Yona will begin to understand the depth of her feelings for Hak. It’s more than just thankfulness for his unwavering support—it’s a growing, deeper connection.
