PlayStation’s Movie Studio Finds Its Next Lead Star In DC Hero

PlayStation is continuing to expand its presence in film and television. PlayStation Productions and Sony Pictures have been actively adapting popular video games for the screen, with recent projects including Uncharted, The Last of Us, and Until Dawn. As this trend grows in Hollywood, PlayStation is offering even more of its well-known game franchises for adaptation, and Helldivers is shaping up to be one of their most promising upcoming projects.

The multiplayer game Helldivers, created by Arrowhead Game Studios, originally launched as a top-down shooter in 2015. It recently became popular again in 2024 with the release of its sequel, Helldivers 2, which changed the gameplay to a third-person shooter. Helldivers tells a story similar to Starship Troopers, where teams of highly trained soldiers fight aliens in dangerous locations, all in the name of protecting their home planet, Super Earth. At CES 2025, Sony announced plans to adapt the game into a movie, and the project is now progressing rapidly with a new key hire.

Jason Momoa will star in the upcoming action film Helldivers, directed by Justin Lin, known for his work on the Fast & Furious franchise. Momoa is a familiar face in superhero movies, having played Aquaman in DC films and set to appear as Lobo in the next Supergirl movie. He’s also involved in several video game adaptations, including leading A Minecraft Movie (2025) and appearing in the Street Fighter film (2026). Helldivers seems like a good fit for Momoa, who recently starred in action-packed movies like Fast X and The Wrecking Crew.

Okay, so we still don’t know who Jason Momoa will be playing in the Helldivers movie, but the release date is set for November 10th, 2027! Who Will Jason Momoa Play in Helldivers?

Most PlayStation games focus on storytelling and memorable characters, but Helldivers is different. It’s more about gameplay than a strong narrative, so there aren’t really any iconic characters to build stories around.

Helldivers are usually just generic soldiers, controlled by you and often quickly killed in action. Because of this, players don’t really get attached to specific characters, though there are a few established roles within the game that Jason Momoa could be a good fit for.

Jason Momoa is expected to play a Helldiver, and the rest of his squad will be cast soon. He could be the team leader, or even a high-ranking commander directing the fight from headquarters. But considering his background in action films, it’s more likely he’ll be right in the middle of the battle.

As a big fan of Helldivers, I’ve been following the speculation about Jason Momoa joining the game. It’s exciting, but I keep thinking about the enemies we face. They’re usually Terminids – those creepy bugs – or Automotans, which are robots. There are also the Illuminate, a more advanced alien race. Since none of these foes are actually human, it seems pretty unlikely Momoa would play a ‘villain’ in the traditional sense. It’s more likely he’d be a friendly face helping us fight them, which I’d be totally okay with!

We’ll likely hear more about who’s been cast in the upcoming Helldivers movie in the months ahead. The film is scheduled to come out in November 2027, and hopefully, we’ll find out what role Jason Momoa will be playing soon.
