Guy Ritchie’s $83M Crime Classic Snatch Is Leaving Netflix

This director is currently one of the most celebrated in the crime genre, known for blending comedy, well-developed characters, and quickly moving plots with unexpected turns. A standout early film was 2001’s Snatch.

This movie was director Guy Ritchie’s second film, following his breakthrough hit, Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels. While Snatch has gained a dedicated following over the years, fans have limited time to stream it on Netflix—it’s being removed on March 1st.

Snatch offers a fresh, contemporary take on crime, set in London. The movie reunites director Guy Ritchie with Jason Statham, who plays an underground boxing promoter. He finds himself in trouble with a dangerous gangster named Brick Top after a gambling deal goes sour.

Snatch is a film with a complex but engaging story that weaves together two separate narratives. One follows Turkish and his dealings with the ruthless Brick Top, while the other centers on Franky Four Fingers, a gangster who steals a diamond in Antwerp, Belgium, and heads to London to sell it.

Guy Ritchie wrote and directed the crime comedy, and Matthew Vaughn was the producer. Jason Statham returned for this film, having first appeared in Ritchie’s earlier movie, Snatch. The cast also includes Stephen Graham, Brad Pitt, Alan Ford, and Benicio del Toro.

Snatch Led to a Television Series

Despite being a hit, director Guy Ritchie didn’t make any sequels to the film. However, in 2017, the story was adapted into a TV series. Alex De Rakoff created the show, also titled after the original film, which centers on a group of young con artists who find themselves involved with serious criminals.

The show featured a talented cast including Luke Pasqualino from Shadow and Bone, Rupert Grint known for Harry Potter, Lucien Laviscount of Emily in Paris, Phoebe Dynevor from Bridgerton, Juliet Aubrey who starred in Professor T, Marc Warren from Missing You, Stephanie Leonidas of American Gothic, Tamer Hassan from Game of Thrones, and Dougray Scott of Batwoman.

The series didn’t achieve the same critical success as Ritchie’s original crime film. It received a 39% rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, though viewers gave it a more positive score of 60%.

Snatch is available to stream on Netflix until Mar. 1.
