I’m really excited to hear that Daniel Radcliffe might be considering returning to the wizarding world! It’s been over ten years since he last played Harry Potter, but I’d absolutely love to see him revisit that role, even just for a little bit.
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone (known as Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone in the UK) was Daniel Radcliffe’s first major acting role. He starred as the young wizard Harry Potter, destined to defeat the villain Lord Voldemort. Radcliffe continued to play Harry in all seven of the films based on J.K. Rowling’s books, and later expanded his career with roles in plays like Equus and films like The Lost City.
Daniel Radcliffe recently spoke with Liam Crowley from ScreenRant about his new NBC sports comedy, The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins, and also discussed the upcoming 25th anniversary of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. He said he plans to simply continue with his life as usual for the anniversary, but hinted that “some sort of celebration” is planned for the film, while speaking with co-interviewer Tracy Morgan.
I was so happy to hear Radcliffe say he’s “very, very happy for everyone to watch the movies again,” starting with The Sorcerer’s Stone! He thinks seeing them back in theaters will be a “really cool” experience for us fans. He even jokingly said he might watch the first one this year, but quickly admitted he probably won’t – apparently, he doesn’t usually like watching his own work! Morgan pointed out that maybe rewatching it would bring back some good memories, which I totally get – I know it would for me!
Daniel Radcliffe says he might watch the first Harry Potter film again now that he’s older. He used to feel embarrassed watching himself as a young child in the movies, but now he’d probably just think it was cute to see himself back then.
Tracy Morgan: Good for you, baby.
It’s been 15 years since the last Harry Potter movie came out, and Daniel Radcliffe and his fellow actors have all had different feelings about the series looking back. Both Radcliffe and Rupert Grint have become known for taking on roles in a variety of genres. Some of their most memorable projects include the quirky film Swiss Army Man, the comedy series Miracle Workers, and the Apple TV horror show Servant.
Emma Watson really seemed to be finding her footing after Harry Potter, cleverly balancing smaller, independent films with big-budget productions like Disney’s Beauty and the Beast and Greta Gerwig’s wonderful take on Little Women. I also noticed she’s become increasingly involved in the fashion world. She actually stepped back from acting for a while, telling me she felt a little restricted by it all, but she’s definitely eager to return when she finds a role that truly excites her.
Daniel Radcliffe has often discussed the difficulty some people have seeing him as anything other than Harry Potter, even though he’s taken on very different roles, like in the horror-comedy Horns. Despite this, he’s consistently expressed pride in his time with the series, but he’s been disappointed by J.K. Rowling’s views on transgender people and has questioned whether he would ever rejoin the franchise for a future film.
Daniel Radcliffe is thinking about revisiting his role as Harry Potter at an interesting time for the franchise. HBO is currently making a new Harry Potter TV series, and Radcliffe recently wrote a letter to the new actor playing Harry, Dominic McLaughlin, wishing him well. Plus, Tom Felton, who played Draco Malfoy, recently returned to the character as an adult in the Broadway play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, and he and Radcliffe had a heartwarming reunion at a screening of Radcliffe’s film, Merrily We Roll Along.
Despite still being unsure about watching the original movie again, Daniel Radcliffe saying he’d consider revisiting Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone will likely be heartwarming news for fans. It will also be interesting to see if other original cast members, like Rupert Grint and Emma Watson, share their feelings about the film in the months leading up to its 25th anniversary.
