The latest episode of Jujutsu Kaisen brought back a character fans will recognize, highlighting how much the anime has evolved. Season 3 has been building up to Kenjaku’s dangerous tournament, with Yuji Itadori and Megumi Fushiguro preparing for the challenges ahead. Now that the tournament has officially started, the newest episode kicks off the intense battles of the Culling Game, promising even more action and unpredictability for viewers.
The latest arc of Jujutsu Kaisen, titled The Culling Game Part 1, is a surprising turn for the series. Yuji has faced incredible challenges in a short time, and the newest episode highlights this by bringing back Setsuko Sasaki, a character who hasn‘t been seen since the very beginning of the anime. This appearance is a brief one, serving as a final farewell.
Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 Brings Back Sasaki for the First Time

Episode 7 of Jujutsu Kaisen: The Culling Game Part 1 begins by showing us what’s happening in each of the areas where the Culling Game has taken place. We see Kenjaku visiting Sasaki, explaining that anyone present at the start of the game had the opportunity to escape on their own. He then leads her toward the exit, revealing that her former home has been overrun with Cursed Spirits. However, the biggest surprise is yet to come.
Kenjaku expressed gratitude to Sasaki for being a friend to his son, and Sasaki then realized it had all been a dream. She woke up outside the colony, among others Kenjaku had led out, but she was the only one he specifically thanked for knowing his son. It’s amusing to note that viewers may have forgotten Sasaki even knew Yuji, as she hasn’t been prominently featured since the beginning of the story when she was part of the occult club and initially involved Yuji in everything.
What Does This Mean for Jujutsu Kaisen’s Future?

Watching Sasaki and Kenjaku part ways felt like watching Yuji say goodbye to everything he once knew. The Shibuya Incident already weighed heavily on him, making him feel responsible for Sukuna’s actions, but losing his last normal friend felt like a final severing of ties to his past. It hit me then that Yuji wouldn’t ever truly be able to go back to a normal life, and the Culling Game just confirmed it – things were irrevocably changed, and there was no turning back.
Seeing Sasaki again really highlights how much Yuji’s life has changed since the beginning of the anime, and now we’re left wondering what his future holds. With the third season over halfway finished, viewers will have to watch on Crunchyroll to find out what happens next.
