Dan Trachtenberg reveals Predator Badlands cameos that were cut….

Dan Trachtenberg’s films, ‘Prey’ and ‘Predator Badlands,’ have breathed new life into the ‘Predator’ franchise, with ‘Badlands’ becoming the most successful film in the series so far. Recently, Trachtenberg shared details about some planned cameos that didn’t make the final cut.

The brief appearances showed Dek, a young hunter exiled from his tribe, choosing a planet to test his skills. He needed to prove himself as a worthy predator to rejoin the others, and the most perilous planet on the list was Genna.

The Predator Badlands cameos that were cut….

The original scene was more extensive than what made it into the final version and included many more planets. It also hinted at connections to other films in the Predator series. Notably, it showed Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Dutch, Danny Glover’s Mike Harrigan, and Amber Midthunder’s Naru being held in cryogenic storage on the Yautja homeworld, as seen in the post-credits sequence of the animated film Predator: Killer of Killers.

What the director actually revealed…

Trachtenberg described how the initial concept involved a more extended dialogue – essentially the ‘Pick Your Planet’ idea – and featured more background holograms. The current version uses a softer focus in the foreground. He felt a key element missing from many sci-fi films is focusing solely on the creatures’ story, without human involvement. He also had ideas for future storylines involving the character Naru and imagined a scenario where she’s surviving on the planet and encounters the creatures. While he could envision that continuation, he didn’t want to reveal all possibilities immediately.

And as for Alien!

He also told us they’d cut a lot of ideas inspired by the alien from “Alien” and a really cool monster from “Killer of Killers,” which was a shame. It sounded like those would have been awesome!
