Call the Midwife and Bergerac favourites star in first look at “witty and painfully relatable” holiday drama

The BBC has released a first preview of its new drama, Two Weeks in August. The show stars Jessica Raine and Damien Molony as a couple whose vacation with friends turns into a terrifying experience.

Zoe organizes a trip to Greece hoping to find happiness again, but a secret kiss sparks a series of problems for her and her friends – a group who are still acting like they did in their younger years.

The story hints at a group stranded on an island where desperate circumstances lead to conflict and accusations as they try to determine who’s responsible for their predicament.

I’m really left wondering if Zoe is actually causing all the chaos, or if something much larger is going on. The movie’s set in Greece, you know, a place steeped in mythology and ancient gods, so it definitely feels like there’s more to the story than meets the eye. It’s a pretty ominous feeling, like something powerful is at work.

The photos reveal new cast members joining the production, including Leila Farzad and Hugh Skinner, who will play Nat and Jacob respectively. They join previously announced stars Raine (known from Call the Midwife and Wolf Hall) and Molony (Bergerac, Brassic), as seen in the image above.

Antonia Thomas, known from shows like Misfits and The Good Doctor, and Nicholas Pinnock, who has appeared in This Town and Hedda, join the cast as Jess and Solomon. They’re first shown enjoying a peaceful moment by the pool at their beautiful hotel, but it looks like things are about to go wrong.

This eight-part drama, described by the BBC as both funny and realistic, promises to reveal surprising things about the characters and their relationships. But the big question is: what secrets are they keeping?

I’m really excited to see the cast for “Two Weeks in August”! They’ve got Dolly Wells, who was fantastic in “Dracula,” and Tom Goodman-Hill, who I recently loved in “Baby Reindeer.” Plus, Dylan Brady from “Mary & George” and Maria Almeida, known for her work in “Gangs of London,” are joining them. It’s shaping up to be a great lineup!

Keep an eye out for Khalil Gharbia (known from The Lost Boys), Florence Banks (from The New Look), Sonny Poon Tip (of Industry), and Cassius Hackforth (who appeared in Doctor Who).

Catherine Shepherd wrote this series. She’s also written for Apple TV shows like The Shrink Next Door and The Buccaneers. Some viewers might know her as an actress, having played April in Peep Show or Sally in Sally4Ever.

Tom George directed the first part of the production, and Matthew Moore oversaw the second. Filming for the series occurred in Malta and Gozo, which served as stand-ins for Greece. An official release date hasn’t been announced yet.
