7 Marvel Heroes That Spider-Man Has Defeat in Combat Without Help

Spider-Man is undoubtedly one of Marvel’s strongest heroes. Since gaining his powers as a teenager from a radioactive spider bite, Peter Parker has consistently protected New York City and become a highly skilled fighter. He’s battled formidable enemies like Thanos and Galactus and survived. However, Spider-Man hasn’t only fought villains; he’s also clashed with some of his closest friends and allies.

It’s a classic comic book trope: heroes battling other heroes. Spider-Man is no stranger to these clashes, having fought iconic Marvel characters for a variety of reasons – from simple misunderstandings to powerful mind control. He’s gone toe-to-toe with incredibly strong and durable heroes like Luke Cage, Deadpool, the Silver Surfer, and even the Hulk. Yet, Spider-Man consistently finds a way to win, even when the odds are stacked against him. Here are 7 heroes Spider-Man has defeated in one-on-one battles, without any help from allies.

7. Deadpool

Wade Wilson, a.k.a. Deadpool, is known for being incredibly durable, but even he was no match for an angry Spider-Man. In Deadpool #19, Spider-Man confronts Deadpool after he kills an elderly man, demanding an explanation. Spider-Man relentlessly beats Deadpool, not allowing him to speak. The fight only stops when Deadpool embarrassingly has an accident – a consequence of some bad hot dogs he ate. Ultimately, Spider-Man completely defeated Deadpool.

6. Luke Cage

Following Gwen Stacy’s tragic death at the hands of the Green Goblin, J. Jonah Jameson became even more determined to discredit Spider-Man. In The Amazing Spider-Man #123, Jameson hired Luke Cage, also known as Power Man, hoping he could finally defeat the hero. Cage seemed up to the task, attacking Spider-Man twice, but both encounters resulted in clear losses for Cage. Frustrated by his failure, Luke Cage forcefully returned Jameson’s payment, shoving the money towards him.

5. Iron Man

Everyone remembers that Spider-Man originally supported Iron Man during the conflict of Civil War. However, as the heroes became divided over the issue, Peter switched sides, going against Iron Man’s leadership. In Civil War #5, Tony attempted to convince Spider-Man to back down, but Peter was determined to distance himself. They had a short fight, but Spider-Man was too quick and resourceful for Tony to defeat easily. While it wasn’t a decisive win, Spider-Man managed to overcome Iron Man and prove his point.

4. Silver Surfer

While Silver Surfer is usually much more powerful than Spider-Man (which isn’t surprising, considering his cosmic abilities), Spider-Man proved he could compete in Silver Surfer #14. A simple misunderstanding caused Spider-Man to try and stop the Surfer, and he actually did a good job – he even managed to web him up and knock him off his board! Silver Surfer tried to fight back, but ultimately decided to retreat from Spider-Man’s relentless attacks. It wasn’t a total victory, but it was a notable achievement for Spider-Man.

3. Colossus/Magik

Winning a fight isn’t always about physical strength. In Avengers vs. X-Men #9, Spider-Man faces a tough challenge against Colossus and Magik. They defeat him badly, even showing his injuries in the comic’s narration. However, Peter cleverly uses words to trick Colossus and Magik into fighting each other. While he’s seriously hurt, he’s the only one who avoids complete defeat.

2. Hulk

Okay, so I just finished reading The Amazing Spider-Man #328, and wow! Everyone always talks about the Hulk being the strongest one there is, but Spider-Man really held his own against him. The fight started when the Hulk just showed up, causing chaos near Peter’s neighborhood. Now, Peter wasn’t just relying on his usual skills; he’d gotten a serious power-up from some cosmic energy, which allowed him to actually fight the Hulk. The coolest part? Two kids almost got caught in the crossfire, but Spider-Man landed a punch so powerful, he sent the Hulk flying… literally into space! Thankfully, Spidey managed to pull him back to safety, but the Hulk, in a surprisingly decent move, decided to leave New York after that. It was a wild ride, and a really fun read!

1. The Fantastic Four

A truly memorable Spider-Man moment happened very early in his career. In The Amazing Spider-Man #1, Peter Parker breaks into the Fantastic Four’s headquarters hoping to impress them and join their team. He surprisingly defeats each member – Thing, Mister Fantastic, Invisible Woman, and the Human Torch – one after the other. However, he quickly learns that being a hero with the Fantastic Four doesn’t come with a salary! It’s still amazing to think that Spider-Man managed to beat the entire team in a single showing.
