I’m a huge fan of this director – they’ve brought so many Stephen King stories to life, and they’re not stopping anytime soon! I’m especially excited about their upcoming remake of a true classic, which is going to premiere on Prime Video. It’s going to be amazing!
While there’s no official announcement yet, the movie Carrie is expected to be released in October. Actress Katee Sackhoff shared this information while speaking at Fan Expo Vancouver.
As a huge fan of both Star Wars and Mike Flanagan, I was so excited to hear the actress talk about the upcoming adaptation of Carrie! She really built up the anticipation, saying it’s going to be “very good.” Apparently, it’s part of what she calls the “Flanniverse” and will be released on Amazon in October 2026. She seemed genuinely thrilled, repeating that it’s “very good” and promising fans are in for something special.
It makes sense that Carrie might debut in October. The series was first announced in October 2024 and began filming early in the summer of 2025. While Flanagan and Prime Video haven’t confirmed a release date, Amazon likely wants to follow the successful Halloween timing of King’s It: Welcome to Derry.
When asked about specifics of the upcoming series, Katee Sackhoff remained tight-lipped, simply stating she couldn’t share any details. However, she hinted at intense scenes, mentioning “fire” and “possibly some blood,” which fans of the source material will likely expect. As she explained, given the story’s protagonist, Carrie, some fiery and potentially violent moments are to be anticipated. Sackhoff expressed excitement for the series, praising creator Mike Flanagan as a master of intelligent, psychological horror and assuring viewers they will enjoy it.
This new series is the first limited adaptation of Stephen King’s 1974 novel, despite the book having been adapted for other formats previously.
Summer H. Howell stars as Carrie White, and Samantha Sloyan, who often works with director Mike Flanagan, plays her cruel and devout mother, Margaret White.
The cast of Carrie features both new and familiar faces from the Flanaverse, including Siena Agudong, Amber Midthunder, Joel Oulette, Alison Thornton, Arthur Conti, Josie Totah, Thalia Dudek, and others. Returning stars include Kate Siegel, a frequent collaborator and wife of director Mike Flanagan, along with Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Michael Trucco, Rahul Kohli, Tim Bagley, Heather Graham, Tahmoh Penikett, and Ruth Codd.
Mike Flanagan Has Other Stephen King Adaptations in the Works
Mike Flanagan became a celebrated horror director after creating adaptations like The Haunting of Hill House and The Haunting of Bly Manor, as well as his original series Midnight Mass. He skillfully blends his passion for compelling stories with his admiration for the work of Stephen King.
Mike Flanagan began directing Stephen King adaptations with the 2017 film Gerald’s Game, using several actors he frequently collaborates with, including Carla Gugino, Bruce Greenwood, Henry Thomas, and Kate Siegel. He then took on the more challenging project of Doctor Sleep in 2019, a sequel adaptation to The Shining – a film King himself wasn’t a fan of. His most recent adaptation is The Life of Chuck, which was released in theaters in June 2025.
During the panel, Katee Sackhoff explained that Stephen King has complete faith in the director, even giving him access to all of his works for potential adaptations. She noted King’s trust is evident in the fact that he’s offering the director first pick of his books, saying, ‘You can adapt this story, or this one, how about this one?’
In addition to the film Carrie, Mike Flanagan is developing a TV show inspired by The Dark Tower books, and he’s also working on another original project.
Carrie will premiere on Prime Video in 2026.
