Olympics 2026: Quinn Hughes Addresses Rumors He’s Haunted by Ghosts

Quinn Hughes is giving Olympic spirit a new meaning.

Team USA hockey player Alex Carpenter knows people joke that his blank expression on the bench makes him look possessed. He confirmed this while talking about the lively trash talk he expects to hear from other athletes at the 2026 Olympics.

He mentioned hearing some amusing rumors, as reported by Matt Porter of The Boston Globe while in Milan covering the Winter Games. He jokingly added that people often say he seems to be imagining things.

People often wonder why he seems so distracted. Despite what fans might playfully suggest, it’s not because he’s hearing voices from the past.

I’m generally focused on my own thoughts and feelings, and preparing for whatever I need to accomplish, he explained.

The Minnesota Wild defenseman has been a valuable asset during the U.S. team’s recent wins, but his intense, somewhat unsettling gaze – a running joke in the NHL ever since his time with the Vancouver Canucks – is now getting noticed even by fans overseas.

A TikTok video posted on February 14th showed Quinn Hughes confirming that his family, playfully referred to as the ‘Quinn Hughes ghosts,’ had received their visas and traveled to Italy.

On X, one user playfully commented on February 15th that watching Quinn Hughes interact with what they jokingly called the ghosts of Victorian children haunting him was the most entertaining part of the Winter Games.

Besides his supportive friends, the 26-year-old athlete isn’t alone in Italy. His brother, Jack Hughes, is also competing for a gold medal.

It wasn’t surprising to be selected for Team USA, it’s something we’ve been working towards,” the New Jersey Devils player told TopMob News in January. “Quinn was one of the first players named to the team, and I felt good about my chances given how I’d been playing. But it’s still an amazing feeling when it’s official.”

Jack Hughes, age 24, was excited to be going to the Olympics with his younger brother, Luke Hughes, 22, both of whom play for the New Jersey team. It will be a family trip!

It’s rare for us to get time together – I usually only see him a couple of times during the hockey season. So, having those two or three weeks to spend with him, compete alongside him, and actually play together is a dream come true, especially at the Olympics. It’s a really special experience.
