Marvel Comics is revisiting a famously divisive period in Spider-Man’s history. While Spider-Man has been a mainstay of Marvel since its early days, some storylines have proven incredibly controversial, like The Clone Wars and One More Day. Following One More Day, the Brand New Day era also received a lot of criticism. Now, Marvel is launching a new series that will revisit this Brand New Day timeframe, promising to have an impact on current Spider-Man stories.
I’m so excited! Marvel just announced that a new Spectacular Spider-Man series, called Brand New Day, is coming out in May! What’s even cooler is that Dan Slott, who wrote Spider-Man for years, is back, and he’s teaming up with artist Marcus To – I loved his work on X-Force! Apparently, he’s revisiting the story where he first really made a name for himself with Spider-Man, and this new series will connect to everything that’s happening with Spider-Man comics now. It’s going to be amazing!
Spider-Man Creator Talks New Brand New Day Storyline

As someone who’s followed Spider-Man for years, I have to say Dan Slott really gets this character. He’s penned more Spidey comics than almost anyone, and looking back, his ‘Brand New Day’ era wasn’t the misstep some claim. You can feel his genuine affection for Peter Parker in every issue. He recently shared that Spider-Man is, and I quote, ‘my favorite character in all of fiction,’ and that passion clearly translates to his writing. He’s promising some big reveals and plot threads that will genuinely impact the current Spider-Man stories – things that will matter and have lasting consequences. If you’re a fan, this is definitely a run worth revisiting, and the future looks exciting!
The story centers around something called The Lexicon, a comprehensive record of Kingpin’s criminal operations that Wilson Fisk owned. Spider-Man thinks this directory could dismantle the entire criminal network in New York City. However, others want it for their own purposes: Negative Man to challenge Kingpin, and Punisher to eliminate everyone listed within. Spider-Man quickly understands he’s become a major target. The series will explore why Spider-Man hasn’t used The Lexicon yet, and how it will likely impact the current events in his world.
According to writer Slott, the comic will feature stunning artwork by Marcus To, a key artist at Marvel, and exciting new short stories by award-winning creator Marcos Martin. Slott believes To’s art will make this one of the most visually appealing comics available, and Martin’s shorts will make it easy for new readers to start enjoying the series, even if they’re unfamiliar with previous issues of Brand New Day.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day Is Better Than Remembered

The upcoming Spectacular Spider-Man: Brand New Day series brings writer Dan Slott back to the storyline he originally developed from 2008 to 2012. This relaunch followed a divisive story arc called One More Day, created by J. Michael Straczynski and Joe Quesada. Despite a challenging starting point, Slott successfully crafted compelling Spider-Man stories for over a hundred issues, notably introducing the Superior Spider-Man.
Dan Slott’s plan was to give Spider-Man a fresh start with a clean slate – a world where his secret identity was unknown, Harry Osborn was still alive, and he hadn’t married Mary Jane Watson. Although many fans disliked the change to his relationship, Slott created some truly memorable stories, and this version of Spider-Man’s history is now official in Marvel Comics. The prospect of revisiting this era and introducing completely new storylines, while also hinting at future adventures, is really exciting.
Spider-Man is coming home! After a long and dangerous journey through space, the Wall-Crawler is finally returning to Earth. During his absence, everyone wondered what happened to him, and while characters like Ben Reilly and Norman Osborn attempted to fill his shoes – often with chaotic consequences – it’s time for the real Spider-Man to resume fighting crime. His return won’t be easy – he’ll have to mend fences with Aunt May, who feels neglected, and confront a surprising new reality with Mary Jane, who is now bonded with the Venom symbiote. A mysterious entity called The Lexicon is also expected to play a significant role in the story, and this all begins with a flashback series launching this May.
The first issue of The Spectacular Spider-Man: Brand New Day will be available on May 13, 2026. Dan Slott is the writer, and Marcus To and Marcos Martin are providing the interior artwork. Phil Jimenez created the main cover, and Pat Gleason illustrated a special variant cover.
