Tell Me Lies Star Spencer House Reflects on Wrigley & Bree’s Complicated Romance (Exclusive)

Spencer House, who plays Wrigley on the Hulu series Tell Me Lies, discussed key scenes from Episode 7, focusing on the complex relationship between Wrigley and Bree. The episode revealed that Wrigley and Bree had real feelings for each other, but a series of betrayals left their future uncertain, impacting the rest of the season. While some viewers thought Wrigley and Bree weren’t meant to be – given Bree’s marriage to Evan in the past – House shared a different take on their secret connection.

In a recent interview with TopMob, Spencer House, who plays Wrigley on Tell Me Lies, shared his opinion that Wrigley and Bree’s relationship wasn’t destined to fail. He believes the couple “probably would have been pretty successful” if they hadn’t been dating within their close circle of friends.

House explained that Bree and Wrigley are drawn to each other because they both value honesty, something they haven’t experienced much lately. He also noted they have a natural chemistry.

Despite all the drama and shocking secrets revealed in the Season 3 finale, it strongly suggested that Wrigley and Bree found happiness together after the group fractured. Their ending felt earned and satisfying, and many viewers believe they deserved it.

The actor also discussed the emotional breakup scene between Wrigley and Pippa in Season 3, Episode 7 of Tell Me Lies. He shared that he used personal experiences from his own past breakups to help him perform the challenging scene.

Although Wrigley takes center stage in Season 3 with an unexpected relationship with Bree, some viewers might expect it to be difficult to show his softer side. However, House told TopMob that portraying Wrigley’s vulnerability wasn’t difficult at all, but actually a very rewarding experience.

Meaghan Oppenheimer, the showrunner for Tell Me Lies, shared on Instagram that Season 3 will be the show’s last. She explained that this was the planned ending from the start. Although there won’t be a Season 4, actor Ben House told TopMob he’d be interested in exploring his character’s relationship with his parents if the show were to continue.

Spencer House Reveals His Honest Thoughts About Wrigley & Bree’s Romance

“I Definitely Don’t Think They’re Doomed From the Start.”

  • TopMob: “Wrigley has become a fan-favorite character this season because of the huge revelation about your new dynamic with Bree. Fans clearly want them to be together, but the fast-forward in the 2015 timeline showed Bree and Evan getting married. Some have pointed out that they are doomed from the start. Do you agree with that sentiment, or do you think that there is still a chance for a happy ending for both of them?”

I don’t believe this couple is destined to fail. I think they’d have a good chance if they could date without the pressure of their friend group. Of course, the long-term success of any relationship is always uncertain, but I genuinely think they could have a healthy connection if they were able to explore things on their own.

I believe that’s what draws them to each other. They both seem to recognize genuine honesty in the other person, something they’ve been missing for a while, and there’s a definite connection between them. I think they have a real chance at a relationship.

Wrigley & Pippa’s Breakup Is Devastating for Both Parties

“I’ve Thought About the Breakups That I’ve Had in my Life…”

  • TopMob: “Let’s talk about Wrigley and Pippa’s gut-wrenching breakup. How did you navigate playing that scene?”

Spencer reflects on past breakups, acknowledging how painful they are even when necessary. He specifically remembers Wrigley leaning on Pippa during a difficult time, and how supportive she always was. As he prepares to end things, he’s steeling himself, knowing it will be hard but believing he has to go through with it.

I believe when he enters the room and sees her, it hits him – the significance of what he’s about to say, and everything they’ve experienced together. He probably doesn’t expect it to be so emotional, but it ultimately is.

It was really compelling to explore that moment because so many people experience something similar when they’re ending a relationship. You often tell yourself it’s the right thing to do, but then, as it’s actually happening, you realize how much that person meant to you. I think that realization is particularly powerful for this character.

Wrigley’s Real Honest Thoughts About Leaving Bree’s Art Exhibit

“I Don’t Think He Wants to Go.”

  • TopMob: “I think you were in a difficult position in Episode 7 because fans knew that Wrigley wanted to be there for Bree during the exhibit, but you also had to be there for Pippa. Can you walk us through what Wrigley’s mindset or feelings were during that difficult sequence?”

Spencer thinks a huge part of him – maybe 98% – wants to be there for Bree. But he also believes that when you date someone, you have a responsibility to make sure they’re okay and happy, sometimes even more than focusing on your own happiness. He feels this strongly because he just broke up with Pippa, and that lingering sense of duty is what’s drawing him to check on her, even though they’re no longer together. Ultimately, though, he doesn’t really want to go; he just feels obligated.

Spencer House Reflects on Portraying Wrigley’s Vulnerability

“I Found It Very Fulfilling…”

  • TopMob: “Season 3 has shown more of Wrigley’s vulnerability, especially now that his feelings for Bree have been unpacked. How challenging was it to navigate Wrigley’s vulnerability this season?”

Actually, working on Spencer House felt really rewarding, not difficult at all. I truly enjoy playing the character and the Wrigley setting, and it felt familiar – like I’d experienced similar scenes before, which made it a good fit for both me and the character. It wasn’t nearly as demanding as the first season, to be honest.

Spencer House Reveals His Hopes for Wrigley’s Future

Season 3 Was Always the Ending

In a conversation with TopMob, House also addressed the question of whether the show might continue beyond Season 3, even though it’s been announced that Season 3 will be the last.

As TopMob previously reported, House said that while there’s always a possibility a show could be renewed for another season, it’s ultimately up to the viewers whether that will happen.

During our conversation, he confirmed that Meaghan, the creator, always planned for Season 3 to be the conclusion of the show. If the series were to continue beyond that, House explained they would essentially have to start over with a completely new direction.
