Netflix announced plans for a live-action Scooby-Doo series last year, and now the first actor has been cast in what’s described as a fresh, updated take on the classic story.
We finally have news on who will play Daphne – it’s Mckenna Grace, known for her role in The Handmaid’s Tale!
Variety reports the actress will portray a young Daphne Blake in the new series, exploring how the group first came together.
I have to say, Grace really impressed me in that adaptation of Margaret Atwood’s work. It wasn’t just a good performance, it earned her an Emmy nomination – and made history! She was the youngest performer ever to be recognized with a guest acting Emmy at the time, which is pretty remarkable.
She’s well-known for her roles in several popular projects, including the TV show Crash & Bernstein, the movie Regretting You, and the Ghostbusters films (Afterlife and Frozen Empire). She’s also slated to appear in the upcoming Scream 7 and The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping.
This isn’t the first time Grace has worked on a Scooby-Doo project. She previously voiced young Daphne in the 2020 film Scoob!, while Amanda Seyfried voiced the older version of the character.
Sarah Michelle Gellar is widely recognized for playing the character, especially after starring in the live-action Scooby-Doo movie from 2002 and its follow-up, Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed, in 2004.

The new Scooby Doo series on Netflix updates the classic Hanna-Barbera characters for a modern audience. It follows the same group of teenage mystery-solvers and, of course, their amazing dog!
As Shaggy and Daphne enjoy their last summer at Camp Ruby-Spears, they stumble into a spooky mystery involving a lost Great Dane puppy. The puppy might have seen something terrifying – a possible supernatural murder.
Along with Velma, a practical and intelligent local, and Freddy, a mysterious and attractive new student, they began investigating a case that was drawing them all into a terrifying situation, one that risked revealing their hidden pasts.
With its long history of successful cartoons and movies, many fans are eager to see how Scooby-Doo will be reimagined as a new series on Netflix.

Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg, along with their company Midnight Radio, will lead the new series. They’ll be working with executive producers Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, and Leigh London Redman from Berlanti Productions, and André Nemec and Jeff Pinkner, also of Midnight Radio.
When they announced the series back in March, I read that Greg Berlanti said something really sweet. He mentioned one of his very first Hollywood memories was getting to watch Bill Hanna and Joe Barbera sign animation cels – it sounded like a dream come true for any cartoon fan like me!
Josh, Scott, and the entire team at Midnight Radio have created a story that truly reflects their creativity and the quality of their work. We deeply appreciate their contributions, as well as the support from Warner and Netflix, in making this new version of Scooby-Doo a reality!
Peter Friedlander, a Netflix executive, announced that Scooby-Doo is returning in a new live-action TV series. He expressed excitement about bringing the beloved mystery franchise to television in this format for the first time.
As a huge movie buff, it’s clear this franchise has really left its mark on everything – I mean, the themes of friendship are timeless, and so many of us have grown up with these stories. I’m really excited that the teams at Berlanti Productions and Midnight Radio are involved in bringing it back; they seem dedicated to both honoring what fans already love and introducing a whole new generation to the fun and mystery of these meddling kids!
So far, only Grace has been confirmed for the cast, but trust me, there’s a whole roster of characters they’re keeping under wraps. We’ll just have to wait and see who else joins the fun – and I, for one, am eager to find out!
