Lisa McGee’s new comedy series, How to Get to Heaven from Belfast, has quickly become a hit on Netflix. It’s currently the most popular show on the platform, and viewers are eager to know if it will be renewed for another season.
The season finale tied up most loose ends, but ended with a suspenseful cliffhanger that strongly hints at future episodes.
But what are the cast’s hopes for a second season?
In a conversation with TopMob, Caoilfhionn Dunne playfully suggested she wished they had a better car. Given that the three of them frequently traveled around Ireland on foot looking for clues, a more powerful vehicle would have definitely been helpful.

Roísín Gallagher, who plays Saoirse, said she’s eager to continue with the story and hopes audiences connect with it as much as she did when she first read the script. She wants viewers to be as captivated and curious as she was.
Honestly, I’m really hoping there’s more to come from this story – I’d love to see where it goes next! But, sadly, it’s out of my hands. All I can do is hope the people in charge feel the same way and decide to keep it going.
As of today, the show hasn’t been officially renewed for another season. However, with lots of fans talking about it and discussing what creator Lisa McGee will do next, an announcement could come fairly soon.
McGee has expressed interest in continuing the story, but whether or not there will be a second season depends on viewership. She told Deadline, “I’ve left it open for a second series, but it’s all completely down to how many people watch. I’d love to do one.”
Although people might expect similarities between Derry Girls and How to Get to Heaven, it’s actually McGee’s earlier, famous comedy that shaped her new show.
In an exclusive interview with TopMob, McGee explained the inspiration behind “How to Get to Heaven from Belfast.” He shared that, similar to when he was creating “Derry Girls,” he often attended screenings in Derry with the friends who served as the basis for those characters.
I started thinking, while watching old footage of ourselves as young girls, about what those younger versions of us would think of the women we are today. Would they be let down, or would they be proud?
As a film buff, what really grabbed me about this story was the contrast between who the character used to be and who they’ve become. That gap, that evolution – it’s just fascinating to watch unfold.
