Next God of War to Include Scythes to Kratos’ Arsenal, Might Go Back to Greece – Rumor

Recent reports suggest that the next God of War game might give Kratos a new weapon: a curved Egyptian sword. Now, a new rumor claims he could also use a scythe. Tom Henderson, speaking on the Insider Gaming Weekly podcast, stated that a scythe is indeed included in the game.

He found it fascinating to hear the rumors and see what ultimately happened. Later in the podcast, Henderson discussed the potential location for the next game. Although a curved sword suggests a setting of Ancient Egypt, Henderson believes the game could instead return to Greece.

According to what I’ve heard, a new main God of War game is currently being made. Many people are guessing it will be set in Egypt, but I personally think it will return to the world of Greek mythology. It makes me wonder if that’s the reason behind the remake of the first three God of War games.”

According to Henderson, Sony Santa Monica has confirmed they’re completely rebuilding the original three God of War games from the PlayStation 2 and 3 era. While the studio hasn’t shared many specifics about the remakes yet, they’ve stated that development is in its early stages and it will be some time before they reveal more. The news came from TC Carson, the original voice actor for Kratos, suggesting he may return to the role instead of Christopher Judge, who voiced Kratos in the more recent games.

Following the recent announcement, a rumor surfaced suggesting Sony is planning to reveal a new God of War game later this year. According to industry source shinobi602, Cory Barlog is directing the game, with a planned release around 2028. The insider believes the announcement will likely happen at the May State of Play event or during the summer’s SGF (Summer Game Fest), but if not, it could mean the release date has been delayed or the reveal will be brief.

Back in July 2025, a rumor surfaced suggesting Sony Santa Monica was developing a new game based on an existing, older franchise. According to Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, this won’t be a simple remake; the game will be so different it will essentially feel like a completely original title.

He thinks this might be the source of the confusion. He asked that people stop asking him questions about it, explaining that any further details would be shared in an article, not on this forum.
