As a huge animation fan, I’m really excited about The Super Mario Galaxy Movie and how it’s building on the first film. It sounds like Illumination is planning to pull from even more of Nintendo’s amazing characters! We already knew Bowser Jr., Rosalina, and Yoshi were joining the crew alongside Mario, Luigi, Peach, Bowser, Toad, and the others, but it definitely feels like they’re opening the door to potentially include even more favorites from the Nintendo universe. It’s a really promising sign for the future of these movies!
Ever since The Super Mario Bros. Movie featured Donkey Kong and hinted at other Nintendo favorites, fans have been wondering who might show up in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. With the main characters traveling through space and visiting various planets, surprises are expected. Now, the movie’s promotion has led many to believe that Fox McCloud will make an appearance.
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie Footage May Have Shown Star Fox
As a huge Mario fan, I’ve been following all the news about The Super Mario Bros. Movie, and the promotion is really kicking into high gear now! They just dropped a new 30-second trailer, and I almost missed something! If you look closely, at about the two-second mark on the left side of the screen, there’s a quick glimpse of a character we haven’t seen before. You really have to pay attention to catch it – check it out below!
The new character is standing to the left of Yoshi, Toad, Mario, Princess Peach, and Luigi, so it’s definitely not any of them. We don’t see much of the figure, but the design appears to be mostly green and white, with some kind of tech device attached to their leg. This has led most people to believe it’s Fox McCloud, the hero of the Star Fox games.
Fans have been speculating about a mysterious object seen in promotional material, suggesting it could be part of Bowser’s equipment or even Toad’s backpack. However, it bears a strong resemblance to the costume worn by Fox McCloud, specifically his signature green pants and sidearm. While it’s not confirmed yet, this new hint makes it seem much more likely that Fox McCloud will appear in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie.
Why Fox McCloud Appearing In The Super Mario Galaxy Movie Would Make Sense
If this character is indeed Fox McCloud from the Star Fox series, it makes sense given the movie’s scope. The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is designed to take the story well beyond the familiar Mushroom Kingdom, as Mario travels to various cosmic locations to assist Rosalina.
Fox McCloud, with his love for space travel, would fit perfectly into the Mario universe. It makes sense that Mario and Fox could team up, even if it’s just for a quick trip to the Comet Observatory. This could open the door for the whole Star Fox crew to appear in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie.
Having Fox McCloud appear in a film would be another great move for Illumination as they build out a universe of animated Nintendo movies. Similar to how Donkey Kong is getting his own movie after The Super Mario Bros. Movie, this could be a way to introduce a Star Fox movie franchise.
It would be really cool to see Fox McCloud in The Super Mario Bros. Movie, and this shot might be our first hint that he’s going to be included.
