Since its launch in 2022 by Mark Waid and Dan Mora, Batman/Superman: World’s Finest has consistently been a top-tier comic book. The series captures the spirit of the classic Silver Age of comics, effectively retelling the early days of the DC Universe with a modern twist. Each issue feels like a grand adventure, making it an ongoing, epic story that fans adore. From the very beginning, writer Mark Waid has delivered a blockbuster experience, and even with a change in artists—Dan Mora moved on, but the art remains excellent—the book hasn’t lost its quality. Batman/Superman: World’s Finest #48 continues to prove why it’s consistently one of the best superhero comics available.
Superman and Batman are DC’s iconic duo, and their adventures span countless universes. This comic takes us to Earth-3, a world where heroes are the villains. While Earth-3 is usually ruled by the Crime Syndicate, this story focuses on a time before the team existed, highlighting just Ultraman and Owlman. It’s a surprisingly fresh concept that’s a bit of a mystery why it hasn’t been explored sooner. Seeing Ultraman and Owlman – along with Superwoman – before they’ve built their team and established their power is a fantastic idea, and the writer, Waid, executes it brilliantly.

Batman/Superman: World’s Finest #48 Offers An Unexpected, Joyous Team-Up
Matt Waite is DC’s expert on keeping track of its stories, so this book is a natural fit for him. It delivers exactly what you’d hope for from Ultraman and Owlman, showing both their competitive drive and how ruthless they are, while still hinting at a connection between them. We see them at the peak of their power on their world – truly unstoppable forces. Ultraman is like Superman without any limits, and Owlman is casually cruel. The story follows them on a mission, as they battle the Doom Syndicate and Will Magnus’ Metal Men. Years ago, if someone had told me I’d be reading a story with Ultraman and Owlman teaming up before they formed the Crime Syndicate, I wouldn’t have believed it. That’s what makes this story so fantastic – it’s unexpected, satisfying, and leaves you wanting more. I’m already hoping for this book to be a regular monthly release!
Marcus To Steps Into This Book and Makes It His

Dan Mora set a very high standard with his work on this book, and he’s widely considered one of the best artists currently working in comics. While the art has remained good since he left, it hasn’t quite reached his level. This issue shows Marcus To is really trying to put his own artistic stamp on the book, and if he maintains this quality, he’ll be successful.
This book’s layout and detailed artwork really bring the story to life. The characters are expressive, the action is dynamic, and the artist’s style elevates the entire experience. This new story arc takes readers to an unexplored time – the history of Earth-3 – and the art perfectly captures that sense of discovery. The visual style is a great fit for this new world, feeling like a fresh start that highlights just how strong the book is.
DC’s World’s Finest delivered one of its strongest stories yet in 2025, and it consistently ranks among the best superhero comics available. The series has been reliably excellent for years, so consistently good that it’s easy to take for granted. However, the latest arc, featuring the villainous Earth-3 counterparts of the iconic duo (perhaps better known as the World’s Foulest Duo), is a refreshing and exciting shake-up. This story is a great reminder of Mark Waid’s talent, complemented by truly stunning artwork that is sure to impress.
