Sony Makes Shocking Decision to Shut Down Bluepoint Games

In a surprising turn of events, Sony is apparently closing Bluepoint Games, the studio it bought in 2021 and integrated into PlayStation Studios.

Bluepoint Games is best known for creating the stunning Shadow of the Colossus remake for PlayStation 4 and the critically acclaimed Demon’s Souls remake for PlayStation 5.

Everyone expected great things from the team, but Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier reports the entire company is being shut down.

Bluepoint Games was developing a God of War game designed as a live service, but Sony cancelled the project in early 2025. This happened as Sony decided to scale back its plans for games that continually update with new content.

We, like a lot of people, were surprised to learn that the company behind a popular platform game had Bluepoint Games – a studio known for its excellent remakes – working on this particular project. It just didn’t seem to make sense, given Bluepoint’s strengths.

According to Schreier, the studio has been exploring different ideas for the past year to figure out what they’ll be working on next.

The closure means that around 70 people will lose their jobs.

A Sony spokesperson recently shared that Bluepoint Games is a remarkably skilled development team, consistently creating high-quality games for PlayStation fans. Sony expressed gratitude for Bluepoint’s dedication, innovation, and commitment to excellence.

Many PlayStation fans are likely confused by what’s happening. It looks like the company in charge hasn’t handled things very well.
