The doctors at Sacred Heart Hospital are ready to scrub back in.
The original stars of Scrubs—Zach Braff (as J.D.), Donald Faison (as Turk), Sarah Chalke (as Elliott), Judy Reyes (as Nurse Carla), and John C. McGinley (as Dr. Cox)—are back for a tenth season of the popular medical comedy.
Even though fans didn’t like season nine, which featured short appearances from Zach and Donald alongside a new group of characters, viewers can look forward to more episodes like the beloved first eight seasons – complete with the famously funny and often outrageous humor of ‘The Todd.’
Oh my gosh, you guys, Zach just told me – well, he told TopMob News, but it’s basically the same thing – that even though the show gets totally crazy with the fantasies and is hilarious, it’s still grounded in real life! And get this – they almost did a spinoff called Scrubs: Med School for season nine! Can you believe it?! But they decided they wanted to go back to the roots of what made the show so amazing in the first place. Bill Lawrence, the genius creator, totally agreed! It just makes so much sense, and I’m living for it!
Zach explained that they weren’t including any material outside of the established storyline, and they were definitively ending the show with season eight. He also pointed out that even though J.D. imagined a happy future with Elliott at the end of the season, the finale wasn’t necessarily a completely joyful conclusion.
“This is exactly what he always hoped for,” the 50-year-old explained. “Like all dreams, though, there’s no guarantee it will actually happen.”
Even after 16 years, people still loved the show and its characters. This was partly thanks to the natural chemistry and close friendship between Zach and Donald, which they continued to showcase in their T-Mobile commercials and their podcast, ‘Fake Doctors, Real Friends with Zach and Donald’.

This has led to a new wave of enthusiastic fans who sometimes get a little carried away and excitedly repeat lines from the show to the actors when they meet them in person.
Donald once told a story about being in London when a fan unexpectedly jumped onto his back while shouting a line from their famous “Eagle” scene. He quickly shook the fan off and ran away. Zach jokingly asked if the fan had been drinking.
“No!” Donald exclaimed, “It was like in the middle of the day!”
Donald shared another strange fan encounter, recalling how a nurse recognized him before his colonoscopy. ‘She told me she was a big fan of the show,’ he said, ‘which was odd, considering I was in a waiting room in a robe and trying to relax before the procedure. She wanted to chat about it for a while.’
Zach shared a funny experience he had with doctors, describing how they’d casually ask about reviving the TV show ‘Scrubs’ while he was nearly naked in a gown and should have been focused on his health. He joked it felt like an odd time to be discussing television.
The job does have its advantages, Donald explains. “When I go to the doctor, people are shocked – they immediately want to get me into a private room as quickly as possible!”

Besides the strange experiences, Donald described it as surreal watching the original cast reunite for a new season. He added that getting everyone back together was the one thing they all needed to make the project happen.
Sarah explained that they had been discussing this for about two years, and everyone agreed that if they were going to move forward, they wanted to do it together. She said that wearing her doctor’s coat and scrubs again felt comfortable and familiar, like coming home.
The only difference among them?
Zach chuckled and said he’s noticed he’s getting wrinkles. He explained that whenever he shares a photo with Donald, about one in four comments point out that Donald doesn’t seem to age.
