Batman exists in a unique position within DC Comics movies right now. Director Matt Reeves is getting ready to start filming The Batman Part II (expected in October 2027), and DC Studios is also developing another live-action Batman movie, The Brave and the Bold. These two film series exist in separate universes – Reeves’ films are their own thing, while The Brave and the Bold is part of the main DC Universe. This is unusual, and fans are interested to see how DC will manage having two different Batman storylines running at the same time. There’s been speculation that DC Studios might wait for Reeves to finish his three movies before starting The Brave and the Bold, but it doesn’t seem like that will happen.
When a fan asked on Threads if The Brave and the Bold would be released after The Batman Part 3, James Gunn simply replied “Nope.” He didn’t offer any further details about the film’s progress or release timeline.
The DCU Shouldn’t Wait to Introduce Its Batman

It makes sense why people were talking about a possible change to the Batman movie plans that James Gunn recently addressed. Instead of trying to launch two separate Batman movie universes at the same time, it would likely be simpler to wait until Matt Reeves finishes his planned Batman trilogy. This would allow Warner Bros. and DC to focus attention on one Batman series at a time. Introducing a new live-action Batman while Robert Pattinson is still playing the role could confuse viewers who aren’t closely following the details. While dedicated fans stay updated on industry news, many moviegoers might not be aware of the overall plan.
DC is working to avoid overwhelming audiences with too many Batman movies. James Gunn has stated he doesn’t want The Brave and the Bold to come out in the same year as The Batman Part II, and it’s likely the same will be true for The Batman Part III. This strategy keeps the two series distinct while still bringing Batman to the new DC Universe relatively soon. The Brave and the Bold will likely be a very different kind of Batman film. While Matt Reeves’ films are realistic and grounded, The Brave and the Bold could lean more into the classic comic book style. The story will also focus on Bruce Wayne’s relationship with his son, Damian, and will include other members of the Bat Family, making it clearly separate from Robert Pattinson’s Batman portrayal.
Early superhero movies needed to be straightforward to attract a general audience. But viewers are now much more familiar with comic book stories and complex plots, like those involving multiple universes and different versions of the same character. Because of this, as long as the movie is advertised well, people should easily understand that Robert Pattinson’s Batman is a separate version from the Batman in other DC films.
James Gunn is making a smart decision by not rushing to include The Brave and the Bold in theaters, but DC Studios shouldn’t delay it indefinitely. Batman is such an important character to DC that he can’t be missing from major movies for too long—especially with Gotham City playing a role in this fall’s Clayface. As Gunn develops the larger DC Universe story, keeping Batman on the sidelines long-term would restrict the types of stories they could tell, which wouldn’t be ideal. With The Batman Part III still a ways off (fans waited a long time for Part II), it’s best for Gunn to integrate Batman into the DCU now rather than waiting several more years.
