Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump is likely to cancel another popular manga series. Just four months after starting, one series is heading towards its final arc, signaling its upcoming end. Earlier this year, Shonen Jump announced significant changes to its lineup, resulting in the cancellation of two series and the conclusion of another after five years. It now appears even more titles may be ending soon.
Shuhei Tanizaki’s manga, Gonron Egg, had a strong start when it launched last fall, but it hasn’t been doing well recently. A time skip after just 15 chapters was a worrying sign, and now it appears the series is heading towards cancellation, with the final battle set to begin next week. With only 16 chapters published, it looks like the series will be ending soon.
Gonron Egg to Be Cancelled After Only Four Months

Chapter 16 of Gonron Egg begins after a three-year gap in the story. The rebel forces are battling the last of the Drakarchs after years of conflict. Gonron has achieved a powerful new form, but he and his fellow fighters are the main focus while their leaders – who haven’t had much screen time yet – confront the ultimate enemy. To add to the tension, a recent magazine announcement confirms that the manga’s final battle will begin next week.
After just 16 chapters, it seems like Gonron Egg is rushing to finish its story, likely because it’s facing cancellation. Series with poor sales numbers are usually cancelled before reaching 20 chapters, and we’ve seen this happen frequently, especially in 2025, with more potentially happening in 2026. It’s likely the series will be cancelled within the next few weeks.
What Does This Mean for Shonen Jump’s Future?

Earlier this year, Shonen Jump launched three new manga series, which also meant canceling three others. With Gonron Egg potentially ending soon, it seems like space is being made for a new series to capture fans’ interest. The new manga that debuted in January have generally been well-received, and fans are hoping the next series will continue that positive trend.
Shueisha hasn’t announced what manga will be ending or starting soon, but typically a few series are cancelled and new ones begin around the same time. If Gonron Egg is nearing its conclusion, fans might want to keep an eye on other series to see which ones could also be ending.
