Excited about the upcoming Castlevania game from Konami? While you wait, you might enjoy Saint Slayer: Spear of Sacrilege, which releases on April 20th for PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4.
This new adventure game is heavily inspired by classic NES titles like early Castlevania. It features a retro-style campaign with optional local co-op, over 21 levels, and fantastic 8-bit graphics and sound.
As you play, you can make friends with animal companions, improve your skills and weapons, and discover multiple different endings. The choices you make will determine whether you help or harm the people you meet.
Here’s the plot overview, courtesy of the game’s Steam page:
It’s 1698, and a disturbed man called Father Pacer is causing chaos across the Holy Roman Empire. He’s relentlessly stealing sacred Catholic artifacts, breaking a fragile peace after a recent war. Now, a former soldier named Rudiger, who’s trying to live a quiet life as a farmer, must defend his community from Pacer, his monstrous allies, and his growing power. Will Rudiger rise to the challenge and become known as the Saint Slayer?
This game looks and sounds fantastic! It’s developed by Lillymo, the team known for their great games Twin Breaker and Habroxia, which both put a fun, fresh spin on classic retro-style gameplay.
The game isn’t available on the PlayStation Store yet, so you can’t add it to your wishlist there. But you can try it out now by downloading a demo on Steam.
