As a die-hard Marvel fan, I can’t contain my excitement as I delve into the latest sneak peek at Marvel Studios’ The Fantastic Four: First Steps. With the film about to hit the big screen next week, Marvel Studios has dropped an exclusive behind-the-scenes video, offering a captivating glimpse of what’s in store for us.
This intriguing footage offers a tantalizing peek at the practical sets and builds that have been meticulously crafted to bring this forward-looking retro universe to life, as seen in the movie. But what truly piques my interest is the reveal of how the filmmakers managed to construct a realistic and detailed model of Galactus, the cosmic entity we all know from the comics. This model can be scaled up to create the colossal presence that Galactus is renowned for!
In the video available for viewing, the team discusses creating a human-sized Galactus, who would later be enlarged into an enormous character. To ensure authenticity when this happens, they focused on making every detail during construction incredibly precise. As the filmmakers decided to handle such a colossal character practically, they also needed a method to utilize light and special lenses to depict the towering villain on screen, emphasizing his immense scale.
The Fantastic Four’s Early Footsteps”
This upcoming production, titled “The Fantastic Four: First Steps,” will depict the team in a nostalgic 1960s style that maintains a futuristic charm. This design is a nod to Marvel’s original family, whose comic book debut first appeared in “The Fantastic Four” #1, released in November 1961. Despite earlier Fantastic Four films, this will mark the first instance of the family being portrayed in a retro setting on screen, accurately embodying the essence of the comics. Director Matt Shakman expressed his enthusiasm for this approach, stating, “The Fantastic Four were born in the ’60s. It was an era of hope, gazing at the stars. We’re incorporating that spirit into our interpretation of the ’60s, within this retro future world.
This upcoming movie features Pedro Pascal portraying Reed Richards, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm, Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm, Ralph Ineson as Galactus, Julia Garner as Shalla-Bal, and Paul Walter Hauser as Mole Man. The movie is helmed by Matt Shakman, who previously directed WandaVision, with a script co-written by Josh Friedman, Eric Pearson, and Jeff Kaplan. Reports suggest that Natasha Lyonne has a hidden role in the film, while initially John Malkovich was set to play a villain, but unfortunately his part was removed from the final cut.
Unlike previous Fantastic Four movies, “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” deviates from being an origin story. Instead, it explores the team in their post-superpower phase, focusing on their life as both a superhero group and family. This film will also introduce Franklin, Reed and Sue’s child, to the big screen for the first time. The baby is rumored to play a significant role in bringing Galactus into the storyline.
The Fantastic Four: First Steps is set to hit theaters on July 25, 2025.
