Awards season is nearing its end, and this weekend marks a key moment with The Actor Awards ceremony on Sunday, March 1st. Formerly known as the Screen Actors Guild Awards (or SAG Awards), this event is a strong indicator of who will win in the top acting categories at the Oscars, giving leading contenders a final chance to solidify their chances before Oscar voting ends on March 5th.
Everyone is predicting Jessie Buckley will win Best Actress and Timothée Chalamet will win Best Actor at the upcoming Actor Awards. Chalamet has already won a Golden Globe and Critics’ Choice Award for his role in Marty Supreme, and winning at the Actor Awards would likely pave the way for his first Oscar.
Even though winning an Oscar would have given him a historic title, a Screen Actors Guild Award would still make Timothée Chalamet the first person to accomplish a unique feat.

Timothée Chalamet has actually won an Actor Award before, for his work in A Complete Unknown. If he wins for Marty Supreme, he’ll be joining an exclusive group of actors who have won multiple SAG Awards, including Daniel Day-Lewis, Frances McDormand, Renée Zellweger, Cate Blanchett, Viola Davis, Kate Winslet, and Mahershala Ali.
If Timothée Chalamet wins this year, he’ll be the first person to win the same award two years in a row at this ceremony. He won for “Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role” last year for A Complete Unknown, and he’s nominated for the same award again this year for Marty Supreme.
Renée Zellweger actually won SAG Awards two years in a row, in 2002 and 2003, but the awards were for different types of performances. In 2002, she won for her leading role in Chicago, and the next year she won for her supporting role in Cold Mountain.
Historically, no one has ever won a SAG Award in the same category two years in a row, let alone won consecutive awards in any category. Timothée Chalamet is currently the favorite to win this year, which would make him the first to achieve this feat. However, the possibility of making history might be slightly more challenging given this unique record.
The actors’ guild often bucks the expected outcomes during awards season, choosing to recognize long-time performers. Given that Ethan Hawke has never won one of these awards, and Leonardo DiCaprio hasn’t won since 2015, it wouldn’t be shocking if either of them won this year.
Given Timothée Chalamet’s strong performance throughout awards season, he remains the frontrunner to win at the 32nd Actor Awards and potentially make history.
