Scream 8’s Fate Reportedly Already Confirmed Ahead of Scream 7’s Release

However, making Scream 7 has been challenging due to the firing of Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega’s decision to leave the project, forcing the filmmakers to change their original plans. Despite these difficulties, Scream 7 is predicted to have a very strong opening weekend, suggesting a positive future for the franchise and Ghostface.

According to Variety, the Scream franchise isn’t over after the seventh movie. The report indicates that plans are already underway for an eighth film, suggesting Ghostface will likely return to terrorize audiences again. This comes as Variety details the challenges faced during the production of Scream 7.

Will Scream 8 Actually Happen?

While there’s talk of an eighth Scream movie, it’s not confirmed yet. Just because initial plans are being made doesn’t guarantee it will happen. A lot depends on how well Scream 7 performs – if it doesn’t do well, the studio might decide to pause the series instead of making another film right away.

Currently, Scream 7 has a 47% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, meaning reviews are fairly split. Most critics seem to think the Scream series might be losing steam after three decades, and even those who enjoyed the latest film feel it doesn’t quite live up to earlier movies. If audiences feel the same way, it’s possible Scream 8 won’t happen unless the filmmakers come up with a fresh, new story. If they can’t find the right direction for the plot, plans for another sequel could be canceled.

Whether or not an eighth Scream movie gets made largely depends on how well Scream 7 performs in theaters. While a strong opening weekend would be a good sign, horror films often see a quick drop in ticket sales. To ensure the franchise continues, Scream 7 needs to maintain solid viewership over several weeks. Fortunately, the movie had a reasonable production budget of $45 million, meaning it doesn’t need to be a massive hit to make a profit. If it does well in theaters and on streaming with Paramount+, the studio will likely see that there’s still a demand for Scream films, despite recent challenges behind the scenes.

With horror films still being incredibly popular, it’s no surprise Paramount is considering another Scream movie. The franchise has consistently attracted audiences for thirty years and continues to perform well in theaters. The challenge will be to find a new and creative direction. Scream originally stood out by offering a clever take on the slasher genre, and Scream 8 will need to do something equally innovative to avoid feeling repetitive. It would be disappointing to see such a well-known series end with a weak final installment.
