PS1 Game From 1999 Being Remastered for the First Time Ever

A PlayStation 1 game originally released in 1999 is getting a brand new remaster – its first ever! While the original was only available on PlayStation and wasn’t very well-known, this updated version will be available on multiple platforms. You’ll be able to play it on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, PC, and Xbox Series X. There are no plans to release it on Nintendo Switch 2 or Xbox One, but the game is scheduled to launch on July 16th.

This summer, a remastered version of the 1970s-style robot anime game Geppy-X will be released on those platforms. The original game was only available in Japan and never made it to other countries, making this remaster particularly exciting as it will be the first time players outside of Japan can experience it.

Robot Anime Remastered

This isn’t a complete overhaul of the game, but rather an enhanced re-release. The original source tapes have been converted to digital format, and modern technology is being used to make the game look clearer. The animation has also been restored to run at its originally intended speed of 24 frames per second – it was slowed down to 15 frames per second for the original PlayStation. The goal is to give this 27-year-old game a complete and faithful restoration.

Okay, so if you haven’t heard of Geppy-X, it’s this awesome 2D shooter that’s basically a tribute to those classic 70s robot anime shows like Getter Robo and Mazinger Z. They really went all out with it – not only did it play like an old-school game, but it also had fully animated cutscenes that looked like those 70s shows. When it came out back in ’99, it was totally unique. And honestly, even now, 27 years later, there’s still not much else quite like it.

This release is a huge surprise, to say the least. Remasters are common, but this game is quite obscure. It was also a more challenging project than some others from that time period because of its animated cutscenes.
