Good news for music game fans! A new game in the style of Guitar Hero is scheduled to release in late 2026. RedOctane, the original creator of Guitar Hero, recently re-formed as RedOctane Games and hinted at a new rhythm game in development. Now, they’ve shared more details, and it looks like the game will deliver exactly what fans have been hoping for.
RedOctane recently unveiled Stage Tour with a first look trailer. Similar to Guitar Hero, the game lets players perform songs using a plastic guitar controller. It uses the familiar five-button layout found in Guitar Hero and Rock Band, and promises new features, game modes, customizable bandmates and instruments, competitive gameplay, and ongoing seasonal content and live events. Though the trailer focuses on the guitar, RedOctane has confirmed that other instruments will also be playable.
RedOctane expects to release Stage Tour this fall. Along with the game, they’re planning several new controller options, including guitars, a drum set, and wireless microphones. Stage Tour will be available for digital download, and RedOctane is also creating a bundle that includes the game and a guitar.
RedOctane plans to continually update Stage Tour with new content for years to come, and doesn’t plan on making a sequel. They aim to grow the game in partnership with its players. This approach worked well for the game’s developer, Harmonix, with previous titles like Rock Band 3 and Rock Band 4, so they’re hoping for similar success with Stage Tour.
Currently, there’s no confirmed release date or list of platforms for Stage Tour. RedOctane says they’ll share more information, including the first songs in the game, in the coming months.
