Okay, so the big Marathon server slam is happening right now before the game officially launches on March 5th, and tons of people are checking it out! It’s been crazy – we hit over 143,000 players all playing at the same time on PC just in the first 24 hours it was free to play. It’s awesome to see so much interest!
The weekend’s almost here, so I’m expecting to see a lot more people jumping into the game! It’s tough to get exact numbers for players on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, but usually, if the game or beta is doing really well on PC, it’s a safe bet it’s popular on consoles too. If you want to know more, check out our Marathon Server Slam guide.
For comparison, Highguard reached a peak of just over 97,000 players when it first launched, while the ARC Raiders test had around 189,000 players playing at the same time. With the weekend approaching, Marathon has a good chance of exceeding that number – at least on PC.
Marathon, Bungie’s first game since Halo and not part of the Destiny universe, is an extraction shooter with both player-versus-player and player-versus-environment elements. It revives a game series Bungie originally created in the 1990s. If you enjoy the recent server slam test, the standard edition of Marathon costs £34.99 or $39.99, and a Deluxe Edition with extra content is available for £49.99 or $59.99.
Explore the abandoned colony of Tau Ceti IV, a dangerous sci-fi world filled with competing scavengers, armed security forces, and treacherous landscapes. Venture into its zones alone or with a team to search for valuable items. When you do, expect moments of careful exploration to suddenly erupt into quick, intense player-versus-player combat. Fast reflexes, good aim, and careful planning are key to survival.
