Nintendo announced today that another GameCube game is coming soon to the Nintendo Switch Online service. Since adding GameCube games in 2025, Nintendo has already made popular titles like Luigi’s Mansion, Chibi-Robo, Wario World, and Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance available to subscribers. Now, a highly-regarded and previously expensive GameCube game will be added, making it more accessible to players.
Nintendo announced today that Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness will be the next GameCube title added to the Switch Online service. Originally released in 2005, Gale of Darkness continued the story of Pokemon Colosseum, offering similar gameplay. While it received somewhat mixed reviews initially, the game has since become a favorite among Pokemon fans, driving up the price of physical copies to over $200.
Nintendo hasn’t given a specific release date for Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness on Switch Online yet. They’ve only said it will be available sometime in March 2026. We should find out the exact date in the coming days or weeks.
Future GameCube Games on Switch Online
Now that Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness is coming to Nintendo Switch Online, we have a better idea of what other games will be added soon. Nintendo already shared a list of GameCube games that would be available through the service. After Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness, only Super Mario Sunshine and Pokemon Colosseum are still expected. These two games will likely be released by early summer, bringing the total number of GameCube games on Switch Online to 11.
Just a heads-up: to play GameCube games on Nintendo Switch, you need a Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack membership. Also, these games are only available on the newer Switch model, not the original. If you’re planning to play Gale of Darkness when it comes out next month, make sure you have both of these things set up beforehand.
