What Paramount’s Warner Bros. Win Could Mean for James Gunn, DC Studios, and the Snyderverse

With Netflix dropping out of the competition, Paramount is now likely to acquire Warner Bros. While still subject to final approval from company boards and regulators, Paramount is expected to take ownership of the studio and everything it includes, such as DC Studios.

The possible change in leadership has led people to wonder how it might impact James Gunn’s position, the future of the DC Universe, and ongoing fan efforts related to the ‘Snyderverse’.

James Gunn’s Contract and the Future of DC Leadership

A Bloomberg article from October 2025 reported that Paramount intended to keep Warner Bros. mostly unchanged, according to people familiar with the matter.

According to sources close to the situation, Paramount plans to maintain the creative teams at both studios, but will combine some of the marketing and distribution departments.

James Gunn and Peter Safran are set to continue leading DC Studios, which is part of Warner Bros. Discovery. Gunn recently told Bloomberg that their contracts have been extended to spring 2027. After that, Paramount Global will oversee any decisions about leadership, but there are currently no plans to change the direction of DC Studios or revisit the creative vision of Zack Snyder.

Last November, Cosmic Book News said investors from Saudi Arabia were considering joining the bidding for DC Studios. The report also pointed out Zack Snyder’s previous business connections in the region. Cosmic Book News suggested this could be good news for continuing Snyder’s vision for DC, stating that if Saudi investors supported Paramount and won the bid, Snyder would likely remain involved.

Later reports from industry sources clarified that any Saudi investment wasn’t a direct purchase of Warner Bros., but rather part of the overall financing for Paramount. The exact amount of this investment hasn’t been publicly revealed.

Snyderverse Speculation and the Saudi Investment Reports

There’s been talk among DC fans that the recent change in leadership might impact James Gunn and Peter Safran’s positions. Some fans who support Zack Snyder have also hoped the new ownership could lead to a continuation of Snyder’s vision for the DC Universe. Interestingly, Snyder himself shared photos on Instagram from his time at Warner Bros. around the same time, which many fans saw as a hint related to these discussions.

Matt Belloni of Puck News reports that if Paramount’s offer goes through, James Gunn and Peter Safran will probably stay on as heads of DC Studios, though they might have less creative control than they did at Warner Bros. This doesn’t mean they’ll be replaced, and there’s no reliable information suggesting Zack Snyder is planning a comeback.

DCU Projects Moving Forward Under Potential New Ownership

Even with changes happening over the next few years, the DC Universe will continue to develop. The movie Supergirl, directed by Craig Gillespie, is planned for release on June 6, 2026. James Gunn has also completed the script for the next Superman movie, Man of Tomorrow, which is expected in 2027, and other DCU projects are currently being worked on.

Talk about the Snyderverse continues online, and people will likely keep speculating about its future, even if the studio changes owners. A new owner would probably change the overall direction of the studio and how its franchises are managed. Although James Gunn and Peter Safran seem secure in their roles due to their contracts, the big decisions about the studio’s direction will still be made by the company’s leadership.
