As a huge horror fan, I’m always impressed by how much Netflix actually has to offer, from their own shows like The Haunting of Hill House to newer movies like The Black Phone and even some great classics like Christine. And it’s about to get even better in March with additions like Misery, Stephen King’s Sleepwalkers, Zombieland, and almost all of the Saw movies! But sadly, they’re taking one of my favorite ’90s horror flicks off the platform soon, so if you want to watch it, you’ve got to do it quickly!
You have less than 48 hours to watch the original I Know What You Did Last Summer on Netflix. The sequel from 2025 will remain available, but the 1997 film will be removed on March 1st. This classic ‘90s horror movie features Jennifer Love Hewitt, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Ryan Phillippe, and Freddie Prinze Jr. as four teens haunted by a fisherman with a hook, a year after they hid a deadly car accident.
I Know What You Did Last Summer Rode the Wave of ‘90s Teen Horror To Become an Instant Cult Classic
I absolutely loved I Know What You Did Last Summer! It’s just the perfect ‘90s teen slasher, and even though it didn’t get amazing reviews at the time, it’s become a classic. It really benefited from coming out right after Scream and tapping into that huge wave of teen horror that defined the decade. Everything about it felt right – the cast was full of up-and-coming stars I already knew from TV, and the story, written by Kevin Williamson of Scream, was a genuinely suspenseful and chilling whodunit. It reminded me a bit of Candyman with its focus on secrets and urban legends. Even the way it looked and sounded – the moody coastal setting, the jump scares, the music – it all just felt like the ‘90s slasher genre at its best.
Okay, so I Know What You Did Last Summer doesn’t have amazing reviews – Rotten Tomatoes gives it around 47% from critics and 41% from audiences. But honestly, I think it’s a really fun and well-made horror movie, and it totally captures the feel of ‘90s horror. It’s a classic slasher film, and it was popular enough to kick off a whole franchise! There have been three sequels and even a TV show, and a new one is coming out in 2025. But let’s be real, nothing has quite lived up to the original – it’s still the best one, in my opinion.
Where to Stream I Know What You Did Last Summer After It Leaves Netflix?
If you’re a fan of scary movies, don’t wait to stream I Know What You Did Last Summer on Netflix. Even though it’s a classic ’90s slasher film, it won’t stay on the platform forever. It doesn’t appear in any streaming service’s plans for March, meaning it will likely be removed from Netflix then. While it might return to streaming at some point, there’s no word yet on when that will be.
